How strong is Gmail's spam filter?

I've got a Gmail account and I seldom use it. However, I'm getting sick of all the spam in my primary ISP email account. I'm thinking of letting it go and switching to Gmail full-time now that POP is available.

I want to know how good their spam filters are.
 
ive never used my gmail account for anything other then giving out invites and i had 80 Spam emails in there last time i checked it
 
Their spam filter is pretty good (the best I've seen thus far). Like loki8481, I haven't gotten any legitimate mails in my spam box and vice-versa.
 
I've had GMail since the summer. Only had at most 3 junk email. But yet my Hotmail and ISP email, both with the same beginning email portion have received tons of emails (at least 10 daily) So I feel GMail has a great spam filter.
 
I dunno, but I get a lot of Message Delivery Failed things for messages I've never even sent out. Anyone else get that?
 
My Gmail account gets about 200 spam emails a day, because I use it as my primary email, and forward all my old accounts to it. All the spam is actually for the old accounts, but Gmail filters them all out. Every once and awhile, a certain spammer will succeed at making it through, for example some refinance one got me good for a few days. But after reporting the messages as spam for a couple of days, gmail started filtering them out.

You don't. Gmail doesn't use folders to sort email, it uses Labels. I prefer the folders myself though. Hopefully they will support that in the future.

Directory, folder, label - what's the difference. They all do the same thing and organize things into groups.

Then you really haven't started using the labels yet.. I felt that way too, until I really started using them.. They are the same as folders, although you can have them in more than 1 "folder" or label.

Yes I have. I'm just not a fan of the way it leaves all the messages in Inbox, but applies a label to them. I prefer the way folders work. With folders, everything I sort goes into a folder, and the stuff I haven't sorted yet just goes into my Inbox. It's easy to tell the difference. With the labels, I've got like 20 messages with different color labels next to them, and some without. Messages that are Labeled still add to the "unread" total next to the inbox. It would be nice if you could at least have an option to not show labeled messages in the inbox.
 
It's good. Except some bastard got a hold of my e-mail and is sending spam using my e-mail as his/her return address. I'm getting all these bounced e-mails.

You need to archive the emails. Once you do that, they will no longer appear in your inbox and you can then use the label to retrieve them.

That's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about NEW emails. If 20 emails come in, and 10 are filtered with labels, and 10 aren't, all 20 still sit in the Inbox. It would be nice you could just have an option for labeled emails to not be shown in the inbox, or for there to be some option for unfiltered email to have the label "unfiltered" applied or something.

Edit your filter and make sure the Skip the Inbox (Archive it) is checked.
 
Does anyone know how to stop Gmail from automatically blocking images?..........Every graphical email I get, I have to constantly press their "Display External Images" link.

Is their a way to default this functional where all "external images" are automatically left alone?......
