So how long till it takes the quad-core CPU to be the "normal" processor included in middle market computers?

Not yet, but they have more potential.

Wait for Crysis, Alan Wake and all the multi threaders to finally appear.

I believe Intel plans the timing of the Q3 price cuts to be right around the introduction of AMD's Barcelona. So HURRY UP AMD!!!

I can't wait for the Q3 price cuts.
Isn't intel's bearlake X38 chipset coming out then too?
I can't wait to pair the Q6600 and the X38

BTW does the X38,P35,G35 etc... support netburst processors?

think i read somewhere that it only supports core 2...but dont quote me on that though.

The xeon motherboard ur talkin about is the socket 771 kind.
There are socket 775 xeons which are quad-core
the xeon x33xx chips which will be out soon

More fud from am AMDROID

as the above (me) poster said, he's probably referring to the 771 xeons which do have mobo's that cost $400.

he's not spreading fud. he's just not saying which xeon (771 vs 775).

All articles coming up through a Google search date to Dec 06 but I guess they are still valid?

FiringSquad

Basically,
Q6600 drops to E6700's price.
E6700 -> E6600
E6600 -> E6400

The E6400/E6300s will be replaced with 4MB L2 variants, E6320/E6420...that too at lower price points.

$500 is the April price point. If you can wait a few more months(Q3) the Q6600 is going to drop to around $300

the q6600 is supposed to drop to $250 is in q3 2007.

there is a xeon 3000 part that runs 2.13 ghz that will belike $210. its rumored it will also be released as a q6400 too.

are duals even *better* than Single core for gaming ... yet?
😕

assuming you have nothing running in the background

looks like *everything* .... including the first "full" dx10 games are set for next year
--i guess

is Supreme Commander running better on DC [nevermind Quad]? one of my friends with a tweak setup doesn't think so 😛

Yes, it utilizes 2 and 4 cores heavily at high settings. (with very noticable gains)

i didn't *really Know*
😕

thanks

and i got a *scathing rebuke* from my friend who said "if you have a single core CPU then don't even try to play it " and went on to say it uses 3 cores very effectively.

now i know 😱

next year 😉
