How soon is too soon? (To start a new relationship)

I'm talking ending a 1yr+ relationship, then going into a new relationship (not one night stand type thing, but actual relationship).
Inspired by the dude whose ex's mom came round.


Poll means how soon can you go on to another person. Experiences welcome (if you've ever had a relationship of course, this is ATOT)

i was coming out of a 3.5 yr relationship. we fought, broke up, didnt speak for two weeks then got back... two weeks later, we fought broke up, didnt speak for two weeks then got back... it was quite immature, really.. but we went on like that for almost 6 more months...

then, one day... we fought, broke up, didnt speak for a week, i met my current b/f and that was that....
almost 6 yrs now... and we are as happy as clams.

There is a mandatory 15 minute downtime.

However, the longer the relationship, the longer the "mourning period." Also, losing a friend qualifies for a much longer time than losing a girlfriend. If you're both, then the two are additive.

Personally, I've been totally FUBAR for almost 5 months now on the trailing end of a lost long-time friend/1.5yr romance.

yep, if you are ready to start a new relationship on your way out the door then great go do it, it REALLY doesnt matter as long as you feel you are ready

Depends on how you broke it. If it's a devastating "I thought it would last forever" break up, could take upwards of a year(longer if you were married). If it's a, "This was a long time coming" type of break up, a month should be more than enough.
