How smart are spiders?

I just killed one in my place and left it there on the floor as a warning to all other spiders who would dare invade my domain. Think they'll get it?

Insects don't think. They just respond to their environment with preset responses.

I got a spider on the ceiling to follow a laser pointer once, it was funny.

I would think it would invite more as they would want to feast on the remains of spider to absorb its power and become super stpider.

Then you'll have a highlander/spider movie acted out in your home where they start jumping back and forth with swords and chopping each other's heads off.

You show the spiders and can get bitten by one so you can become spiderman and kill off the rest of the spiders.

This is true, unless they are in a horror movie.

I'd disagree, if you've ever seen videos of spiders stalking and ambushing prey. They show an ability to concieve a plan of attack, then adapt it as the circumstances require...sure, i suppose it could all be preset, but when you string a set of preset reponses together, that's what i'd call thinking if you did it, so why not a spider?

Went to my Dad's the other day. There is still a dead spider smashed on the ceiling from a couple years ago.

Haven't seen on since.

I'm not too sure about spiders, but if most snakes see/sense a dead snake they leave the area (this includes snakes that eat other snakes). I think spiders would be more likely to ignore it and take over its domain.

I wouldn't be surprised if Tobey Maguire shows up at your house and bitchslaps you.

ive tried the same thing- leaving it there and seeing what happens. Only in my case, it was this 2" long milipeed thing w/ long legs and very creepy. (when they die the legs keep moving for a couple seconds). I left one dead on my floor, and havent seen one for about a month.

ps- i usually saw one about once evey 1.5 weeks.

I once shot a spider with a BB gun about less than an inch away hanging from the top of my sliding glass door, didn't hurt him at all.
I bow down to spiders now, plus they are good for killing every other insect.
