Probably just more sanctions, maybe a retaliatory response against the military base that launched said missile. If it was just us involved we'd do more, but I gather in such a situation they'd try to hold South Korea "hostage" and it would take their consent to commit to any large-scale retaliation.

This thread belongs in P&N.

It's hard to say what would happen since the scenario is unimaginable. KJI would guarantee one thing if he attacked pretty much any of his enemies: his swift removal from power, dead or alive (and more likely, dead).

That being said, if we want to go into pretend mode and say that this attack happens, I'm going to guess a swift operation with China's blessing aimed at the rapid removal of Kim from office, and probably removal of the entire government. Soul would get pounded in the process, and lots of people would die. But I really have no idea.

An intentional strike on U.S. soil like that would be an act of war. We should first call the PRC up and tell them to stay the hell out of our way as we discipline their out of control step-child since they obviously failed to do so.

We should level all of NK's military bases and any factory producing war materials with air strikes and institute a full naval blockade. Get the U.N. to slap a full embargo on them.

But, I know some will come in here saying that the NK people should not suffer for the crimes of their leaders. There might come a point when we cannot allow them to hide behind their brainwashed human shields any longer.

And 1/3 of Seoul is turned into rubble by nk artillery. All war-game simulations lead to 1/3 of Seoul turning into rubble.

It might not be an ICBM, but I remember NK developing a missile that could reach Alaska and Hawaii.

And their last few missile tests have failed.

And their nuclear tests failed (they failed to reach a megaton).

The fucking country is starving to death. They don't have the capability to harm the US. Seoul, however, is a different matter.

Tell South Korea that we're with them all the way, and when it becomes time to fight, say "Haha, tricked you!" and laugh as the South Koreans die from endless barrages of North Korean artillery and brainwashed zombies. When North Korea exhausts its military resources, we allow China to take the entire peninsula to reassert Chinese supremacy over the inferior Korean nationality.

You realize that SK is not going to react militarily against NK. So there is no reason for NK to launch anything at the US. However, if they were to attack SK we would hopefully only hit military targets before too much damage is done.

I'm willing to go out on a limb here but it doesn't sound good...

Possibly something involving Sarah Palin and a hockey stick?

The thread should be in P&N, but Rubycon's response could make it eligible for L&R.

Nobody wants to take NK over. NOBODY. South Korea least of all.

The reunification of Germany was horrendously expensive and to this day has been a continuous drag on the German economy. North Korea is much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much poorer and brainwashed than East Germany. Nobody wants to take responsibility over NK.

That's because Western and Eastern Germans are closely related. The Chinese-Korean relationship goes back many thousand years and as such the Chinese would simply make a new parking lot to sate their ever increasing need for more land to build factories on. Or, since the North Koreans are such a stupid and gullible peoples, the Chinese could simply declare themselves a nation of heavenly powers and laugh as the poor manlings bow to their ever-expanding supremacy, and not even have to pay their workers the typical 5 cents a day. I, personally, would love having millions of zombielike underlings to do my every bidding, and I'm sure the Chinese are no exception.

No, I'm not Chinese. :(

EDIT: But seriously, I don't see why China would pass up the opportunity. They hardly have a record of humanitarianism and could subjugate (or exterminate) the North Korean populace easily. The South Koreans are at least educated, but as I said in phase 1, the ideal strategy would be to have the North Koreans do that dirty work.

Given the recent developments with NK sinking a SK ship. Lets say NK decides to show off, and show that it can strike a major U.S city. I assume the closes major city is Anchorage. How should the U.S react if NK launches a missle at Anchorage, AK. Not a nuclear missle, but a one with a conventional warhead. Lets say 5-10 people are killed or injured and a building is heavily damaged or destroyed. What should they U.S do in response.

The NK can't even feed themselves, their education system is centered around pleasing one dude (the supreme leader), and everything is crumbling in that country. Taking it over would mean taking on a net loss.

China's only interest in NK is preventing a mass refugee problem. That's why they prop them up. Having to deal with millions of ignorant, poor brainwashed peasants is a horrifying prospect.

China could build a wall (a much larger one if they already have) along the Chinese-North Korean border after destroying all military and government, laughing as the pitiful beings cry to the faded posters of Dear Leader, wondering why their god has forsaken them. They would be totally helpless and starve within several months.

If this happened I would use my magical farts to save the north koreans.

I can only use my mystical flatulence for good, never for profit.

And Kim Jong-il can cure blindness. You're no better than he is, using magical fairy tales to portray your own greatness. I see why you don't like my plan; you wish to succeed Kim Jong-il as the next Supreme Leader of a population. In a way, I can't blame you. Those of times long past lived when all leaders were gods, or at least, appointed by gods. As mankind has evolved these silly superstitions have been uprooted from their inherently wicked foundations and replaced with increasingly fairer and more secular leaders. Only the Koreans lack the intellect to believe in such silliness, and thus killing them will ensure that you will never have a legion of pitiful apes to declare dominion over.
