How should I upgrade?

Currently I have the following:
-AMD 1090T 3.2ghz Hex Core
-Gigabyte GA770-UD3
-8gb of DDR2 OCZ Reaper HPC
-EVGA 560 non-TI 1gb

My motherboard is starting to die, got at least a single PCI slot known to be bad as well as a single SATA port.

My question is do I keep the 1090T and pick up a new AM3+ board and DDR3 or is it also worth picking up a I7-2500K or something of that sort?

If I stick with the 1090T any recommendations on motherboards?

More 1090T information:
-Antec Kuhler with 2x fans (push-pull)
-Will overclock to 3.7ghz at default 1.375v
-Will undervolt to 1.15v at default 3.2ghz
-Will post at 4.2ghz at 1.45v (can't get stable even up to 1.55v)

I'm not sure if my old 770 board is the reason I can't get 4.2ghz or if its just a chip failing.

it would be cheaper to just get an am3(+) mobo and ddr3 ram. what do u do with your pc? it all boils down to budget and use of your pc.

Mostly use handbrake but play games here and there too.
Supreme Commander, ARMA2, Quake Wars, and planning to pick up BF3.

I heard the new 990 chipsets are better for overclocking, any truth to that?

how does ur x6 perform vs 25k in handbrake? is it close? for gaming im sure you will be fine. if u have the $ to spend the 25k will oc higher and perform better in games tho minimal as your card will prolly be the bottle neck. but i dont think u will be unhappy spending less $ and sticking with the x6. still a very good chip. my advice is new mobo n ram based off what u do with your pc.

Well at 3.7ghz it probably comes close to a stock i5-2500, but that obviously an overclocked versus not overclocked CPU.

You don't need anything crazy for a mobo, you're not running Xfire/SLI, and BD is a bad joke, so AM2+/3 is fine.

Get this, keep your ram. Going from DDR2 to DDR3 isn't a big leap, it's almost marginal.

You could think about finding a buyer (lots of people trying to get into BF3 PC right now) for your rig once working again, and going 2500k/DDR3/etc at that point, or just ride the X6 for a good while longer, either is a good plan.

Is that the microATX board GA-MA770-UD3? Or the ATX board GA-770TA-UD3? In any case don't you still have enough SATA and PCI? If so, and if there are no other issues, I don't see why you should replace the mobo. Is the warranty over on it?

I just had to see what motherboards were out there and how much they would set ya back

The only one that seemed viable and cost effective was the

$54 + $8 ASRock A770DE+ AM3/AM2+/AM2 AMD 770 ATX AMD Motherboard

The funny thing is when I googled it and overclocking a user by the name of DarkPhoenix wrote:

I have been running the non + version with a 1090t at 3.8Ghz 24/7 (about 148w if memory serves) with the odd daily run at 4.2Ghz for nearly a year without issue. Stress wise it has seen a 214hr run of re-encoding all my DVDs with Handbrake so for the price it seems to be a pretty solid board. Granted I have the computer sitting in a 15~17C basement room so your mileage may vary.

Due to a lot of reading about VRM burnout/failure I did order VRM heatsinks and thermal adhesive yesterday... Just to play it safe.

Awesome, handbrake user too. LOL

I have no issues moving to DDR3, I have a few machines that would enjoy a ram upgrade due to the "left over" DDR2.

I don't want to upgrade any time in the near future (after this one) so I'm just trying to decide if my 1090T can hold up for a while or if its just best to jump to Intel. Keeping my 560 non-TI in perspective of course.

def stick with the x6. since u have a place to throw the ddr2, get a 800/900 mobo and cheap ddr3. u can do a real upgrade later when the x6 is no longer feasable.
