How should I transport a kitteh (10hr drive)

So I'm moving city next week and the drive is about 10 hours. I have a 6-month-old kitteh who I need to take with me. What are the best options for transporting said kitteh?

I'm thinking either pop him on an airplane (expensive?) or shoot him up with sedatives and put him in a cage in the car. Am I missing any obvious options? Is 10 hours too long to sedate a kitty?

Any help will be rewarded with cute pictures.

put him in a bottle, carry him like a drink

10 hours is too long to sedate him, IMO. At least see a vet vefore.

Are you alone in the car? If you have a person who knows how to handle a cat, you can have to cat loose in the car, and only use the cage when you stop for a rest.

We moved with house cats before. Unless they've been well acclimated to traveling in a car, they tend to yowl the whole fucking time...see your vet, get cat tranquilizers.

you can thank me later.

Yeah he howls like a fucking banshee just traveling to the vet around the corner, definitely couldn't tolerate a full drive like that. Will see vet tomorrow.

agree with letting the cat loose in the car

😱

No fucking cat will just sit still in a moving car. He will be up in your face and (even worse) try to nuzzle up along your ankles in no time. Believe me... loose cat is a very bad idea unless you have somebody with you that will be awake at all times to ensure it stays out of the driver's way.

10 hours is not too long to travel with a kitten in a car. Just make sure to use a cat carrier, line it with an old towel or 2 so if it has to go to the bathroom it can, you can even get one of those kitten cat pans if you use a large enough carrier. It may cry a bit but will eventually settle down. We used to travel back and forth between Virginia and Montreal with 4 or more cats and never had any issues. You want to keep the cat confined in a carrier rather than allow it free roaming of the car in case you are involved in an accident you won't have to worry about the cat running off as well as the chance for it to escape when you stop for gas etc.

If you take this advice you may want to try it on the cat a day or 2 before the actual trip. We had one cat that the tranq had the opposite of the desired effect and made the cat more, not less hyper.

Our vet gave us pills that we shoved down their throats. They were pretty tired for over 7 hours. Put in car carrier, cover with towel. I lined ours up with the center console so I could put my fingers in the cage to reassure them all was ok from time to time.

We would always stick ours in pillow cases. Otherwise they would wig out and claw the shit out of you/your car. They don't like it at first, but after a couple minutes they accept their pillow case fate and just lay there for the remainder of the drive.

Note that this was before the days of the cat carrier.

My grandfather's cat used to love riding in the car. Just say "ride" to her and she would start getting all excited and meowing and get into her carrier.

the best place to hide is under the pedals :awe:

When we moved into our house last year I loaded both cats into separate carriers into the back of the car and they were in car for maybe 5 or 6 minutes. The whole time they were in the car they bitched nonstop, they wouldn't shut up for anything. If they drove me crazy in that short a period of time, imagine 10 hours of that.

Another vote for see your vet for kitty tranqulizers.

Parents used to bring our cat from MN to FLorida for extended vacations in our condo. THey would feed him a sedative and he would basically sleep for the entire ride.
