How should I test my processor?

My new E6750 loaded windows and did some low-stress things in windows with a very lose, improperly attached stock heat sink.

Everything seems normal, how should I go about making sure there is no damage done?

Prime95. Though if your CPU overheats, it will immediately shut down with (usually) no harm done.

There was no shutdown, but there was a point where I moved my case and the HS actually came out of contact with the processor. I put it back in a few seconds and shutdown, and the system was idle, but i'm still kinda worried.


The thing was really hard to get on correctly, i had to remove the motherboard from my case and really power in those stupid plastic tacks.


How should I go about making sure i'm running normally in prime95? Will the results at the end of a stress test tell me the speed I was running at and all?

If you're still using it, it isn't damaged.

That's the way to install all LGA775 heatsinks, with the motherboard removed. Dumb, but true.

How should I go about making sure i'm running normally in prime95?

Run Orthos, or version 95.5 of Prime95, and run the "Small FFT's" test for an hour or two.

I don't mind removing the mobo because at least with this design you can see that it is properly on.

Make sure when you're running Prime95 that you've checked "Enable Round-off Checking" in one of the menus. (I forget which one). That will tell you if your CPU is outputting erroneous values or not.
