I'm currently running off a 27.3 gig 7200rpm Western Digital (supposedly IBM tech) drive and I have a 60.5GB Maxtor at 7200rpm (DiamondMax Plus 60)coming in. I'm not sure which one is faster and which I should make as my boot drive. Should I just leave the 60GB one for storage or is it faster because it's more dense? I'm not sure what to do on this one. Also, how should I partition it if I end up using the 60GB for an OS, I don't think I'd like to defrag a whole 60GB at a time.

Another question (sorry, I know it's a lot) is where should I put the new drive on my IDE chain? These are my drives:

WD 27.3GB HDD (now on primary master)
Samsung 5xDvd (on primary slave)
Plextor 12/10/32a (on secondary master)

Thanks in advance!

I would use the Maxtor as Primary, WD as slave on primary. You can make a 2GB c: and the rest of the drive one big d: if you like so the OS partition will be easier to defrag.

I read a reveiw in a mag last month that had the maxtor as the hands down speed demon out of the likes of ibm, wd, seagate, others. I'd say the maxtor as a boot drive master on IDE 1 with the wd as a slave. I wont have a maxtor until thurday but I hear they are loud and that may cause you to make it the secondary. But on mine I'll be using the maxtor as my boot drive.
