I like the idea of bringing a cake in....something like "happy last day" and bring in party favors and stuff, if you meet n' greet customers offer them cake :)

Do like I did...I had gone on vacation for Tue, Wed, came back on Thurs. and hadn't made up my mind to quit until they screwed me over one last time on Thurs. I called in sick on Friday and marched up there around 11AM on Fri, dressed nicely, looking totally unsick and throwing a quite heated resignation letter on the desk of my support manager & CEO. Wish I had :camera:;s...quite interesting to see a CEO running after your car as you pull off.

Here is waht I have done so far.

I have been gone for the past two weeks -- on bereavement leave -- my g/f's (of 10 years) mom passed away from cancer. :(

I had been contemplating on quitting before, but the final straw was this:
My buddy overheard my boss talking to the VP about how it was stupid that I was on leave -- how it wasn't my mom, and why should it matter. WTF. I've konwn the family since 6th grade, and i've been w/my gf for 10 years! That's longer than most marriages!

So that was the final straw.

Tonite I spent all night cleaning all my crap out of my cube. I took all the stuff i wanted to keep. Then I found a vacation request form. I put my name on it, and then for dates, i put
"F*CKING FOREVER"

Then I said I will come in tomororw and talk to HR about everything. I still have my badge so I think i will go in wearing shorts and a tshirt and then cause some ruckus :D

edit****
There have been so much stuff before these past 2 weeks that have contributed to my decision. THese 2 weeks i had the time off to think about things and prioritize my life. the 2 weeks off were sick days and vacation days that I had accrued up. None of the days were on bereavement days, even though I was "bereaving" (is that a word?).

Agreed. I understand the desire...don't get me wrong.

Also, think of it long term. What if you want to use one or two people you work with as references... they may not think as highly of you if you leave work in such a manner.

Take a dump on your boss's desk. Bonus points if you do it in front of him, or get it into his coffee cup.

Agree. Take the high road and just quit normally. You never know when you might come across some of the people there at a different company. By the way, do you have a job to go to???

Yeah! Make a game/sport of it and see if you can get other disgruntled employees to join in. Winner gets to keep the paper hat!

2 weeks for your g/f's mom? WTF?? I'd be questioning too, especially if they're paying you. I can see taking a couple days to handle arrangements, but c'mon. How is that screwing you over?

Just take the high road. Its unlikely being a jerk would come back to bite you later on, but its certainly possible that it could. All you're giving up is a funny story.

2nd... week at most if it's your own mom. Two weeks would be pushing it.

I agree. I'm plan to quit my current job that has screwed me over for a while now Look HERE, but I'm going to exit gracefully. You never know how fast these words go around, or that you may need their references.

But I think the cake is a good idea. It's like bringing in something nice on your last day so everyone can enjoy.

I have to say that I'm pretty shocked at the 2 weeks for bereavement leave. If I was your boss, I'd be wondering about that myself. Even if it was your own mom, unless it was unusual circumstances, I'd think a week would be more than enough. As for your gf's mom, I can see a day off for her funeral, maybe an extra day for helping with preparations if you felt it was necessary, but even a week would be too much.

Edit: And don't do anything stupid for leaving; it just makes you look foolish. Just go and move on with your life and career.
