How should I mount this blue orb fan on my Abit kt7-raid? Do I take the old heat sink off then use that tape that comes with it or what? Any help would be appreciated.
Hmm I'm interested in this as well... but on a MSI pro2-a. I was thinking of using the Artic Silver epoxy combo, but if the board dies on me don't want to void my warranty.
Sub, the Raid controller on mine died on me last Friday
After 2 months of use....
I never took off mine, but I suspect that they put an almost non existant amount of paste, if anything.
Probably a tiny dab in the middle like my Asus tnt-2 pro had
Viperoni--bummer about the HPT chip man, gives a good reason to grab a KT7A though......
Sub and trav--I'm planning on using the Arctic Silver Epoxy when I get my BLORB. If you're worried about the warranty though, just use a thermal pad so you can remove it and out the original back on later. I've already shot my warrenty to hell by putting silicon conformal coating around the socket to get ready for a peltier.
Sorry to hear that Viperoni... did you RMA the board already?
Heh... warranty smarranty. But would like to keep my mainboards for when I do upgrade... might use that thermal tape thats almost as good as thermal grease, should perform better than the crap (or lack of) they have on it now..
Well I took it off and it had such a tiny amount of goop on it... I added some arctic silver and reattached it. I put a small 60mm fan on it with wire on the ends. The temps is down from 31C to 26C. Can do 109FSB stable so far but requires my volts at 1.9... not worth it.
Has anyone tried using a Tennmaxx Lasagna bga cooler? I use one on all my North Bridge chipsets with a little loving Artic Silver goo. Most will support the pressure pins also.
