I can't find any memory FAQ's or anything, so I figured I'd post.

Athlon T-Bird 1.4ghz (AYHJA)
Shuttle AG35GT2 - VIA KT333CE chipset
Samsung TCB3 PC2700 memory

How should I have all the memory timings set up?

I don't know what all that crap in the BIOS means.

That's why they include a manual with motherboard,Go read the manual.

Yeah... right...

When was the last time you've ever opened a manual? They usually say verbatim what the line in the BIOS reads, followed by "Enabled (Default)". Wonderful explaination.

I would look fo4 the cpu/ram ratio and set it to 4:5 or host clk + pci as it may be listed....That will set it to 133 + 33mhz pci for 166x2 (diouble pumped ddr stuff) for 333mhz or pc2700....

What is th rams rated specs??? Is it cas 2, 2.5, or 3...this is importtant to know...Otherwise just pick spd which should default to the specs of the dimm as read by the mobo...

Everytime I buy a new part or mobo i READ THE MANUAL,and you should too.

This way you dont have to ask questions later.

Okay, now go away and make room for someone actually willing to help answer my questions.

As far as ram specs, I don't believe I have any formal documentation on then, other than them being the fabled Samsung (Original) PC2700 TCB3 Samsung manufactured modules. I'm pretty much running in SPD now, but I don't know which timings these modules can handle. I'll go hunt around and see what I can find on em.

[edit] I've found this article - same ram... http://www.vr-zone.com/reviews/Memory/HighPerfDDR/page8.htm [/edit]

Nobody can tell you what timings YOU should use, every chip is different.

You can buy 2 identical sticks but they might be very different.

The best way is by trial and error.

set it at the fastest & then test with memtest to see if there's errors.

Now that's more helpful, thank you. What I was going for is the general what settings should I be tweaking and what I should leave alone.

As it stands, I tried setting it to 2-2-2-5-2, and Windows comes back with a missing directory (odd). Changed it back to the more conservative settings, and it runs dandy. Unfortunately I don't have alot of time today to play with it. I'm wondering since the last BIOS update for my board enabled the 1/5 divider, whether or not it's worth running a 166MHz FSB.

PS - Budman, thanks for refraining from trying to rip me down and spin me around with that last post. I'm really just looking for some honest help, especially where to start (and the manuals usually aren't very helpful, to me at least). With SDRAM, it was easy, just set it to 2-2-2 and see if it worked. With DDR, there's more (finnikey) settings that I don't know anything about.
