I want to install an secondary electricity meter so I can monitor power consumption conveniently, and there's no way I'm splicing into the main service cables. So current sensing transformers it will have to be.
Do current transformers work properly if crammed into a packed panel? E.g. at the positions marked in this diagram. Proposed positions for the transformer(s) are marked in blue. Hot conductors are red, neutral black.
Actually, although I've drawn 2 transformers, in reality I would probably only use 1, and run both hot conductors through it - just that it doesn't draw well.
I never heard of CTs need any specific type of installation, so I assume this is OK, but thought I'd better check, rather than find out that things don't work after spending $100 on a meter and CT.
