That thing looks like a disaster waiting to happen. Imagine the weight of all that water, the vehicle and the loaded barge on that dinky looking concrete bridge structure.

Wow. That is one awesome way to avoid installing a lock system if you fear dam breakage. Hard to say which method is more costly, I'm sure that system is pretty expensive to run and is somewhat slower in the winter. 😛
