How reliable is COOLBITS?

Are you talking about the "Detect Optimal Frequencies" button for overclocking? If so, I've heard that its not that reliable. Some people are able to overclock more than DOP says that they can, and others can't quite get that high. When I overclocked my GT, coolbits said the optimal settings were 402/1100. I set it at 400/1100 and it has worked flawlessly.

I trust it very much since it's enabling via registry the existing o/c components/features of Nvidia drivers.
Mine set the optimal settings to 420/1.13 for my GT. I gave it a try with some benches and DIII and Far Cry for 1-2 days and it was rock stable. Then I turned back to 400/1100. Why on earth would someone care for more than Ultra speeds anyway? Unless you have an FX-53 or a 3.4P4EE you want see any differences above Ultra levels anyway.

I think its OK for a decent Overclock. Mine comes in at 422/1140 . But I run it @ Ultra Specs. Highier than Ultra equals about 1-2 FPS on doom III for me when already am over 60FPS its pretty point less.

It told me my first eVGA 6800 GT could do 376/1.05, which wasn't enough to matter, so I never even tried it.

After RMAing that card for various other reasons, I got another eVGA 6800 GT. This one detects at 412/1.12. Been playing FarCry all day at 400/1.12 and had no problems. I'm very happy with this card.

mines is detecting 408mhz and 1.11Ghz, havent tried it at them speeds. i have tried 410, 1100mhz and everything except 3dmark 03 worked
.03 crashed on the second game test, but contless aquamark, 3dmark 01, doom3 code creatures tests were fine

that HDR demo with the funny name like rhtjibl or sumthing ended up with an artifact big yellow block across the screen tho

Just installed a BFG 6800GT OC yesterday. It auto-detected at 420/1140 and ran 3DM03 a couple times at that speed with no artifacting/lockups.
I knocked it down to 400/1100 as I only have a P4 running at 3.1G and was just happy to get ultra speeds!

Yes of course it's better but at least you have a safe point of reference with autodetect and then you can gradually move higher yourself until you reach the max settings.
