How reliable are the led mob indicators?

I just assembled my new system today and was unable to get it working. The "DL.E.D." feature on my MSI mob gives 4 solid red lights which means the cpu was either bad or installed incorrectly. This was my first time and installing a cpu but I followed the instructions exactly and believe the install was good. So, I am exchanging the CPU (thank you Newegg), but I still wonder if perhpas the lights may not be accurate. Any thoughts? How common is it really to get a bad cpu?

Had somewhat of a same problem. Installed everything and got the LED's telling me the RAM was bad. I uninstalled everything and then installed it back in. Worked fine.

Yeah, I actually triple checked everything else and re-installed the cpu 3 more times - no luck. Oh well, I'll be at it again next week with a new cpu and hopefully with better results.

Anyone else as to the reliability of the indicators - generally speaking?
