How reliable would a 2001 Nissan Maxima SE, automatic, be? It checks out fine on carfax, and has ~35k miles.

from what i've been reading, they are better than the new ones.

2k's and 2k1's are awesome... that's what i would buy if i could get any maxima.
2k1 20th anniversary SE.

The Maximas arent too bad, since its only a couple of years old, it should be able to run for another 3-5 years before you have major problems. But I never own a Nissan, so I'm just guessing. Tho if I was to buy that car, that would be my prediction.

Maximas are the FWD sedan of choice of enthusiasts so reliability can't be that bad. But I wouldn't buy an auto Maxima... might as well get a Camry or a Taurus or an SUV.

If you're not interested I AM!!!!

Thats the 222 HP V6? Awsome I'd take it... Lots of miles though, But NISSAN MAXIMAS are awsome. They are made of good quality, last long. Though the rear of the car looks fugly, also my legs are too long for the car, it hurt when I drove it before, I'd still get it though. Convert it to a MANUAL, change the front seats (push it back some) so you can comfortably sit in it and get a chain engine belt and be rolling.

How much are they asking $10K-15?

I'd opt for a '99 MAxima Manual given the opportunity :D

Would you be interested in a 3.8L V6 Pontiac Bonneville with 205HP and 230TQ?

Its front wheel driven and roars like a V8.

Wow - you must have some seriously long legs! I drive a 2001 Maxima (SE, manual), and even though I am 6'4" and drive everyday in heavy-soled combat boots, there is ample legroom. There is definitely more than in my prior Acuras and Hondas.

There is no reason to change the timing chain at 35K miles - even timing belts last much longer than that, and the Max's chain is good for at least 100K miles.

I'll take 255 hp and 246ft-lbs without the V8 roar over 205hp and 230ft-lbs.

Bonnevilles = TEH SUCK! My father used to own one and it was a POS!

Skoorb and I recently bought a Nissan Maxima, 2000 SE 5spd with about 36K miles. It is awesome! The power is wonderful and we are thrilled with this car! :)

no they are a choice for lots of people on a lot of car boards. In fact a lot of people on the Maxima forums are previous owners of American muscle such as owning older Cobras, F-bodys, or they have restored 'Cudas and Mustangs. They started a family and wanted a sporty ride so they chose Maxima.

How many affordable FWD sporty sedans are there?
Taurus SHO - discontinued
Countour STV - discontinued
Mazda 6 --> new viable choice <would actually be my preference>
Passat --> more expensive
Maxima -> the choice

And thats about it.

Maximas are dead reliable. Their engines won't die..even under hard abuse. Their auto trannys are not the best but they are reliable. Its a great car. Goto forums.maxima.org if you have any questions.

yes they do. they make great cars too.

you should join the Maxima forums and look up member "Jane97GXE". She has a supercharged Maxima just like her SO. Convince Skoorb to get you a 4th gen 5-spd and supercharge that sucker!

my cousin has a 2k SE. I dropped him off at the airport a few times, and I love driving his car. He's thinking about selling it in a few months. I told him I was definitely interested. I checked out Edmunds TMV for his car with 41k (it's a little high, but the last couple of months he's been driving from San Luis Obispo to Los Angeles every weekend, which is ~200 or so miles each way or more, so it's at least highway mileage). it's $15.6 from a private party.

He said he hasn't had any problems with his at all. Very fun to drive.

Ah, now I understand. Currently, we also have a 93 Sentra with 163K miles...replacing it with another maxima in a few years time sounds like an awesome deal to me! :D

Not in a 2000 or 2001 Maxima you won't. :) (which are what we are talking about here)

three words: they're awesome. i got two friends who have a '00 and '01 maximas. load of fun to drive around and power for it's class. if i didn't already have my civic - i'd pick one of those over the camry and accord.

I'd opt for a super charger. Turbo's are great, reliable to a point and kill a an engine quickly.

Super chargers are for the long haul and deliver great power. Turbo's are for 4 cylinder suckers. I'd supercharge my dad's Bonneville but it wont be worth it.

If I decide to keep my Astro I can EASILY mod the engine to a V8! :D
