How reliable are rewritable disks? (esp. Mount Rainer)

Is there any lossed or damaged data when using a rewritable disk over and over? How is the quality when compared to a harddrive?
I am thinking of buying the Yamaha 2200e, but the 3200e supports the Mount Rainer standard for RW's. If it is reliable, I would think it is worth the extra money, but if it is not, then I'll go with the 2200e.

Thanks in advance.

supposedly you should be able to write/erase/rewrite x1000 times without problems!
