I suffer from terrible insomnia. I can be exhausted, yet still lay in bed awake for hours. As mentioned above, it may stem from the anxiety I always put in my head before I go to bed about how "if I don't get to sleep soon, I'm going to be SO tired tomorrow!" Then the pressure's on.

Always had a hard time falling asleep, then I bought a Serta Sleep Comfort and I'm asleep as soon as I hit the sheets.

I used to be the same way...like you almost psych yourself into staying awake because you focus on it too much.

It worked for me to try to write some thoughts down ahead of time before bed of crap I needed to get done the next day or to read a little before bed.

That coupled with having kids is enough to fucking exhaust me on a daily basis!

I am still dog tired in the a.m. but coffee is a wonder drug!

0.5 - 3 hours. Depends on whether or not my mind feels like shutting up.

If I feel tired at say 10pm, I can manage to fall asleep almost instantly if I lie in bed or on the couch.
If I decide I'm actually going to go to bed, and get myself ready for bed, then when I finally do get to bed it usually takes 10 minutes.

Seems to be quite a few people who can't get to sleep very easily. I can even drink a cup of coffee, then go to bed and sleep just fine.

Takes about 20 mins for me. I have to take some meds to try to relieve my hyperactive brain.

Really depends, but it usually takes longer than i'd like.

Having a drink or few before really speeds up the process though.

Sometimes when really tired though, it takes an hour or more, which drives me crazy, especially when i really want to be sleeping ASAP.

My wife is out within 5 minutes. It takes me anywhere from 15 minutes on a really good night to 2 hours on a bad one. Maybe 45-60 min on average. Not really fun, gets really boring.

usually about an hour or more unless i take some sort of sleep aid, like melatonin.
for some reason when I lay down and try to go to sleep, my mind just starts racing and i start thinking about all kinds of stuff. it's usually stupid stuff too.

last night i was playing minecraft until 2 AM. went to bed immediately after and i know i saw 3:08 AM before I actually fell asleep. I remember thinking about things to build in minecraft for a good portion of that time.

I usually try to read about an hour before trying to go to sleep. i guess as a "wind down" and relax type of thing.

Half an hour to all night. Very bad sleeper, I usually go for 10 hours on the weekends when I can compensate for all the waking up in the middle of the night.

That sounds A LOT like me. Glad to hear that someone else has similar problems staying asleep.

Tonight I'll probably sleep very well. Went out drinking with some old friends and had more than a few drinks... I predict a swift and deep sleep tonight. :p

My brain's overactive (*cough* borderline OCD & paranoid), and I'm usually so tired from my poor sleeping, I force myself to stay awake most of the day (coffee makes me hyper). This carries into my sleep.

Yep, still sounds like me. Half of my problem when trying to fall asleep is turning my brain off. When I do, I get a small bit of sleep, then I wake up. When I wake up, I start thinking about various shit. This happens multiple times per night. It's a vicious cycle.

It takes anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours for for me to fall asleep. The strange thing is that if I go to bed at about 5pm after coming home from school, I fall asleep in seconds..but doing the same at midnight, and I stay awake until it's at least 1:30am.

There's also a lot of research that shows you should treat your bedroom as "go to sleep" room. Don't hang out in your bedroom and you'll condition your mind/body that when you go in the bedroom and lay down it knows to go to sleep.

I used to suffer a bit from insomnia and that's one change I made that helped fix it. pretty much the only things in my bedroom are my bed, a dresser, a nightstand, lamp, and alarm clock. no tv, no computer, etc.

I usually read for 15-20 minutes in bed, but from the time I turn off the light and close my eyes, it's usually about <5 minutes before I fall asleep (assuming normal conditions... eg: nothing preoccupying my mind, I didn't accidentally drink a cup of coffee before bed, I don't have some guy laying in bed with me snoring, etc)

About 10 minutes max. I'm sleep deprived due to work so it's a constant battle to even get to bed with 6 hours before I have to wake up again. I envy all you white collar guys.
