I've found that I can make my dog bark in about 3-4 seconds just by barking at him myself :)

Does your dog respond the same?

There's a whole list of words that will make my dogs bark if I just whisper them.

I don't know how to make our dog bark. I can get her to growl after a bit but not bark.

The only way I can get my dog to bark is when we play "ball". She's got a squeeky little basketball toy that we play fetch with. If I throw it a couple times and then take it from her and hide it she'll bark until I throw it again.

But that's really it. She's just not a barker at all. I could probably count on one hand the number of times she's barked unprovoked by playing.

All I have to do is knock on something without them seeing it and they will both bark. Usually the maltese gets going first, and once she's barking our german shepherd always starts in.

It would take hours. The only thing she barks at is me forgetting to feed her at dinner time.

Going by some of the dogs in the neighborhood, all it will take is for a leaf to fall out of a tree.

One of them knows he's supposed to be quiet unless there's a good reason, so even when I say "speak" I have to do it a few times before he'll bark.
I can't get the other one to bark, but the wife can.

I've never successfully gotten my dog to bark. She'll do it if she's really startled by something, scared, or if she makes a mistake chasing a ball (the ball bounces funny or something similar). Those seem like reasonably common events but she only barks about once a month.

However long it takes me to get to the front door and ring the doorbell from wherever I am.
