I have a vewsonic e790 and was wondering how much memory is needed to run it at 1280 x 512 @85 mhz with True Color 32bit. No 3-D needed but if it comes with it, great! But I would like to have crips 2D text and images.

I'm currently running a dual head G400 32mb (non-MAXX) and it rocks but I'm downgrading (don't ask.. hee hee) and need to get a video card which I will use with one of my monitors.

Will any 16mb card do? Or is a 8mb card capable of achieving this? And I know this is somewhat OT, but how much would a 16mb and 8mb used card go for? Thanks for your help all!

Humm a 4 meg video could do this. Well at least my ATI Rage II w/4megs could do that.

1280 x 512 @85 mhz ???? that resolution doesn't exist I don't think.

oh wait.. I think it's 1280 x 1024. Does that make for sense? I'm not too good with all these pixels things :)

As the other guy says 4MB is enough. But to get decent 3D performance at that resolution you'll need either a 32 MB board with texture compression or a 64 MB board without texture compression.

1280x512? That's an odd res...but anyways...if you want to know how much Video RAM you need just grab a calculator.
Edit: ooh didn't see your update there 1280x1024 is more normal

1280 * 1024 = 1310720 pixels

1310720 * 4 = 5242880 (that 4 comes from 32bits per pixel = 4 bytes per pixel)

5242880 bytes / 1024 = 5120kB / 1024 = 5MB

Refresh rate is a function of the speed of the RAMDAC...so check the RAMDAC speed on the video card...and most spec sheets will just tell you what refresh the card is capable of at different resolutions.
