How powerful is wiFi's connection?

A friend of mine is thinking about sharing her neighbor's wifi connection (splitting the bill, of course) and wondered if it would be possible. I have wiFi at my apartment but it cuts out sometimes but i'm pretty sure it's just a crappy router. would a person be able to share a connection with someone living under them in an apartment if they got a decent enough router and access card? What's a very strong router out there?

You can add a better antenna to most routers.

Why bother? I managed to use a wireless network with my HOME MADE (as in less powerful than most) WAP two floors above the client.

its the nature of wifi. if your in an apartment so much the worse. a neighbor just needs to get a spread spectrum 2.4 ghz phone and u are in for trouble. if they hog the channels with a superg wifi router ur in for trouble again. then theres just the problem of wifi sometimes being blocked by metal or whatever. luck of the draw.

conditions vary so widely, anecdotal evidence means little.

i use a linksys speedboosted g router, so i'm not a total n00b.
