Not to jump on the Live 8 bandwagon but if we ever get the world to a state where everyone has a decent standard of living, I don't think there will be many problems. 1st world nations seem to be doing just fine

Please refresh my memory, exactly how many third world nations were responsible for WWI and WWII? You need a serious history lesson. Far more wars are fought for power, greed or religion than are fought because some backwards yokels are unhappy with their lot in life. There are always going to be wars. There were wars before the middle east had oil, there are always wars in all parts of the world that have nothing to do with the middle east and if we nuked that godforsaken pile of dirt and rocks into a parking lot, wars would go merrily onward without a hiccup.

Like I said, I don't think there will be many problems. WWI and WWII are moot points as we live in the nuclear age now, which makes any scenario for war between first world nations a scenario for the apocalypse. Also, I can't think of an extremely oppressive first world nation. Most are democratic. This is important because WWI and WWII were not caused by these types of governments either.
Not very. The US keeps many wars from ever happening just by existing. We kept Europe from becoming part of the USSR by being there.Originally posted by: Mrvile
Wait, imagine how peaceful the world would be without the US...

Answer: ZERO
Without the US the middle east would be a parking lot as all the arab states attacked Israel and Israel would no nuclear. Without the US India and Pakistan would start lobbing nukes over Kashmir. Without the US North Korea would invade South Korea tomorrow. Without the US China would invade Taiwan tomorrow. Without the US Europe would explode as old rivalries get renewed and Germany, France and England fight it out to see who gets to rule the world.
Like it or not, we're living in a time that will become known as Pax Americana. All the conflicts are small and localized because nobody wants to start anything serious and risk taking on the last superpower.

What sort of drugs are you on? Fine, eliminate WW1 and WW2. We have Iran/Iraq, Iraq/Kuwait, Iraq/US North Korea/South Korea with US and China thrown in for good measure, Britain/Argentina, India/Afghanistan and a dozen others. All industrialized nations and all in the nuclear age. Please turn off your computer and open a history book. MANY PROBLEMS??? All the same problems will remain. Third world nations DO NOT start wars unless it's small localized conflicts with other third world nations. Third world nations are the TARGETS, not the instigators. The weak prey on the strong. That's the way it has always been and it's damn well the way it has been in the time frame that you so ignorantly think that the problems are caused by the third world.
