how overclockable is VC133 Memory?

Hi,

I was just thinking of what it would be like to get rid of my HSDRAM and get VC133 ram for my KT7-Raid motherboard. I'm just wondering if anyone knows how overclockable it is?

Thanks

Well, you won't get a fsb overclock like you would on an Intel board, but I am very pleased with how mine performs on my A7V. I am still a little ticked at how much the price dropped since I bought mine. $160 to $97. I can get the fsb as high as 111 but it likes to lock up when pasting screenshots even at 109. I settled for a happy fsb of 107. The Kingston Value series VC133 is listed as cas3 but I have it set at 7ns 2,2,2.

Memman.com has some listed for more money, but his might be cas2? I'm not sure if you'll gain any going with that though. I guess you'd have to put them head to head to see.

I get these benchmarks in Sandra: 105 fsb 496/581
107 fsb 504/594
109 fsb 514/603
111 fsb 524/616
113 locks up loading windows.

Thanks rmblam,

I was thinking of getting rid of my 256MB HSDRAM for 384MB of Memory Mans VC133 memory. I right now have my Athlon using the 110FSB and i just wanted to check and see if VC133 could do 145Mhz

It'll never happen with the double bus speed nature of the AMD FSB. I'd save your $$$ for the DDR solutions to come. It's going to kill me to wait 3-6 months for the bugs, revisions, and benches to come out for the new mobos. DAM that DDR is cheap!! 128MB pc2100 for under $150!! Unbelievable if it stays that way.

Edit: I guess I was thinking strictly fsb (145) in synchronous fashion like Intel boards. Yes the Ram will do 150mhz with the +33 setting and a 117fsb setting if your VERY lucky and cool the clock chip properly.

Memory at 133 with 117fsb gives 133 +17 = 150mhz through the Ram only while the cpu gets 117.

145 could be had with the 133 setting and a 109fsb which is achievable.

VC-133 runs at very high bus speeds. Check overclockers.com they wrote an article on it. It should run 150 at cas 2 with no problems.
