How open a .XLS file?

I don't have excel and I need to open a few .xls files. Any quick free downloads? I've searched and only found very few shareware options. I've almost never had a need for this before, don't know why they use .xls. Thanks

Just download OpenOffice.. it'll open and edit most any Microsoft Office file for 0/300th the cost. 🙂
