How on earth do you clear the URLs visited in Internet Explorer?

Well, U might have to resort to what EeyoreX said in the beginning of your thread. However, I find it hard to belive that it's not working as mine. When you built the system; did you have anything unusal happen during the install? Have you tried a repair. ? I'm not sure if you stated when this problem started or if it was like that since the install. Do U remember?

That was a GREAT suggestion...I recall needing to do that with an old version of netscape if you wanted to remove all the cookies and history.

I think the key to this problem is to find where these shortcuts are stored...in a file? are they encrypted? are they in a registry key?

hmmmmm.

thanks again!

You already found the area, it's in your history. I realize you say they don't appear there when you check; but that's the only area I know of.

Another odd thing is that when I do I search in History and right click some URLs and delete them they do delete individually...but of course these URLs (that we have been writing about) stay put.

Has anyone suggested Spybot or Ad-aware? Some of those browser helper objects (read: dataminers) log URLS and maybe they use the same cache? If they are currently running, they might be keeping some of those files from being cleared?

I think it's worth a shot.

i have given great consideration to other software not allowing a complete clearing of URLs but the thing that has driven me the most crazy is that I can't find the file or folder or registry key that these URLs are even stored at!

It's almost as if they have been hard coded into a program somewhere along the way.

I am sure they can be deleted with third party software but I am just very curious as to where the URLs are hiding at.

Thanks for ALL of you time and effort everyone!

rnmcd, I haven't forgotten about U. I've been trying to resolve a problem I have as well that's just as mind blowing as UR problem. I will probably have to do a software rebuild in order to dismiss a bad WIN XP install. U might end up doing the same thing. I'll keep in touch.

HI goodole1. I was going insane more because I couldn't figure out how where those URLs were stored than actually needing to delete them. But I ended up d/l'ing a program from purgeie.com that deleted them quicker than heck!

Now I can't get the problem to replicate!!!!!

Thanks for all of your time and I hope you get you system back into tip-top shape.

Thanks for letting me know. I'm happy it ended well. So I guess you can call it an electronic miracle. I used to tell that to my customers that would call me and say "the problem went away" Then the preverbal... "what made my machine do that?". I had to laugh as I never had a clue, had I known they would've been the first to know.

I've heard of the program but never used it or looked into it. I understand there's a regular and a Pro. Which one did you use?

The other question is some thing we won't know... and that is what caused the fool thing to act up in the first place. It's like my erroneous floppy activity. Driving me nuts it is; but I didn't have that far to go. I swear it's worse then being married to my second wife... totally nuts she was.

Well good luck on future endeavors; and may the electron gremlin never dwell in your pute ever again.

It worked with the regular version.
