I am talking about less than an hour. I don't really feel comfortable leaving my son alone for that long. But my sister and I were home alone 3+ hours a day when we were about 7.

I was very Independent,at a young age.
I walked home at age 5 from kindergarten, because I was mad at the babysitter,
{both parents worked, after school I was supposed to go to sitters house}.

It is about 5 miles from that school to my old house.

they left me alone for brief periods (like a run to the store) of time starting ~1st/2nd grade...they would only leave me for extended periods after 5th/6th (like a whole day/night event)

Well, started at young age. Probably at 6 or 7. I usually walked home from karate lessons, I guessed people around me were scared. :D

By the time I was 6 or 7, my sister and I would spend the entire day at home alone. That was about 25 years ago, though. These days, parents would probably be arrested.

i remember the first time i was left alone. i was about 4 or 5 my mom just had to run pick up my sister from somewhere really quick. she asked me if i was sure and i said yes. i was playing with lego's or something.

i distinctly remember hearing the garage door shutting and running out into the garage screaming and BAWLING, banging my fists on the garage door.

very traumatic. though it was my fault, she asked me if i could handle it, apparently i couldnt.

I was a latchkey kid till my sister got home every day, I think that was once she moved up to middle school so I was 7. I wasn't really alone for more than two hours till I was around 10ish I believe.
