16 got my permit.. learned by driving my 'rents around. Got it June 1st (turned 16 and a half? lol). Aced my road test, zero points off. Thus far, I've logged over 6000 trouble free miles while having an un-believable amount of fun. BRB knocking on lots of wood.
16 and two days. I was unbelievably pissed when I realized that my birthday fell on a gd Saturday and I would not be able to get my license until Monday.
Had a huge shitbomb of a car waiting for me (grandma ==> mom ==> dad ==> me hand me down)...but at least it ran. The engine blew a year later. It wouldn't go past 40 mph after the engine gave out, but I drove it around like that for about a month anyway because I couldn't bear to be without it.
until then I didn't have a regular job so couldn't afford to buy, drive, and maintain a car. And there was no way my dad was going to let me drive one of his classics, daily-drivers or not.
15/16 here. Where I live, you either drive yourself or have someone else drive you. Hence, I decided it was time to drive. Public transportation option in AL? ROFL. What a joke...
15.5 in Kansas and then lost it when I moved to New York when I was 17 (they would require me to re-take drivers ed for a second time, etc if I wanted to drive at <18) and got it again when I was 18.
They changed the law in my state the year I got mine requiring people to have a learners permit for 12 months before getting their full license. I missed the cutoff by two weeks and was issued my full license when I was 15, much to the dismay of just about everyone I went to school with who had to wait a year. 🙂
