I think its up to the individual families to decide. In this day in age, not everyone can swing a $2,000 house payment, especially flipping burgers at Mickey Dees.

No, not everyone makes $15 an hour so living with relatives until you find someone to live with or a good cardboard box under the bridge sometimes is the only option.

And furthermore.....

In lots of countries, most relatives NEVER LEAVE HOME!

Your poll sucks.

I'd say after 24 is probably too old. Depends on the situation of course. If you're in grad school or something, alright... :p

Please specify your objection.

Your range sucks... Should be 18-22 (Average Graduation Age of College Grad entering straight from High School)

22-25 (5 Year Grad-2-3 Years at home after college)

25-28 to maybe 30

28 to maybe 30-35 (Probably some lame people here or something like that...)

That depends, really. My mom was on her own at 17 and managed fine. I moved out at 19 and I had a really hard time, returned home a couple times before finally sorta getting on my feet. I know some people who still live at home well into their twenties, but most of them pay rent and go to school - I think that's ok.

If you're well into your twenties, or worse, thirties, and still live at home with no plan, no ambition, and don't pay rent - well, that 's sad and not a good recipe for your future.

I think much of the blame is to be attributed to bad parenting, but at a certain point in one's life, one must get one's shit together, right?

I'd say 24-26... that's long enough to graduate college, find a real-world job, and find a place to live (or a roommate).

but different strokes for different folks. I was out on my own 100% within a year of graduating college. I have friends who are 29-30 and still live at home and that's fine for them (of course, they're also single and not actively dating)

If you are going to a real college, full time. Maybe if you were dumb enough to have a kid. Disabled in some way that impacts your living on your own.

Otherwise GTFO before 19.

Can't agree. I think if you are in college then living at home is alright.

living at home during college... that would be a buzzkill for the entire experience college is supposed to be..
cant exactly spread ones wings and learn to grow up if you are still flying by mommie and daddies rules and curfews..

some people do the local community college thing, save money by living at home.

myself, I lived at home during breaks and summers during college. I see nothing wrong with that.

Kids seem to have a different view of living at home than when I grew up. Today, "youts" are concerned with having a home/condo down payment or, completing school or, paying off the new car first.

In my day, parents started charging their kids rent after HS, owning your own home was a future dream and, anything that was paid for and moved under it's own power was a good car. Some parents paid for school but, it wasn't as common as it is today. So, if you were still at home a year after HS, people started to look at you funny.

It depends on situation. If you're bumming it(not going to school or anything) at home and depending on your parents, baring some medical issue its a problem.

If they are living with you and/or asking you not to leave as they are depending on you for assistance then its never too old. Unless she expressed interest in wanting her own home. I'm not gonna go tell my mom to get the hell out or throw her in some retirement home. We have a guest house with kitchen and everything.

No that's fine that's not really "living" at home that's more like visiting for holidays and vacation..
but your "residence" was at college..

I went away to school, but during winter/summer breaks, I would return home. I didn't maintain a permanent residence at college outside of my dorm room.

I would consider that to still be "living at home" even if I'm only there for 4 months/year.

my legal residence was still at my parent's home during that time.

lol, what? The bolded is fail.

I really doubt anyone has curfews and shit if they're 18 and in college but still living at home.

A good amount of ATOTers haven't grown up or matured at 30, 40+, the "1 day after 18th bday" people really scare me...

Agreed. If you want to be 50 years old and taking care of your parents....so be it.

Think about it - America simply does not have the resources to house every noodnick out there (affordably). Even worse, imagine if every mouth breather (TridenT,etc.) felt compelled to procreate!

We are already at MAX POP of nearly 7 billion. We cant take anymore!

I couldn't put an age on it. If my kids were actively trying to better themselves by saving up for a downpayment on a house post college, or living with us while going to college to save on housing costs I respect and would encourage that.

If they are lazy asses still expecting to live for free and doing nothing to improve their situation, it's time to come up with an action plan with a deadline. They miss it, and they are on the curb.
