It's every 5000 on my car, but it was every 10000 back when I had an suv. You should ask the place where you got them, because quite a few places will rotate them for free.

SUVs (basically all 4 wheel drives) and front wheel drive cars will need more frequent tire rotations than rear wheel drive cars, to get even tire wear.

One thing to watch out for... Improper torquing of the lug nuts (by the idiot grease monkey at the garage of your choice) can result in warpage of rotors and cost you plenty of money. Ive' heard of numerous people actually buying a torque wrench and adjusting the lug nuts on each wheel after paying someone to rotate the tires for them. Hmmm

Tires should be rotated anywhere from 5000 miles-7500 miles. If you don't rotate them until later, thats ok too, as long as you keep an eye on the wear level.

As for the torque wrench issue and rotor warpage, it takes quite a bit of force to actually warp rotors. It seems that the issue is heat, undersized rotors, and just general wear that causes warped rotors in many cars.

For front wheel drive every 3,500 will get you the longest life. Rear wheel drive at 5,000. Balance at every other rotation.

I managed a NTW (eventually changed to NTB) store for 7 years, which just happens to be only one reason why I'm qualified to talk intelligently about tire-related issues.

Technically, you are supposed to rotate your tires when there is a 2/32 tread difference between the front and rears. Every 5000 miles is just a good rule of thumb.

And yes, if you don't use a torque wrench on the lugnuts, chances are that you will either break a stud or warp the rotors.
