I'm just wondering when I may be able to get a Powerbook G4 12" for a tad cheaper!

Is there a timetable or is it just arbitrary?

You aren't going to see a price cut on their newest line for at least six months.

Bite the bullet and get the PowerBook! You won't regret it. :D

Macworld expo in June. New devices introduced, possible price reduction.

Or you could get an ADC or student discount.

If you attend a college or university, check first with them before you go for Apple's educational discount. I've found that here at the University of Michigan, the deals at our computer showcase on Apple laptops are _much_ better typically than the meager $50-100 discount you will get on the Apple online store. It's not always that way, since the deals change frequently (right now Apple is obviously trying to purge their stock of iPods with the new free iPod deal), but usually it's much safer to check with your college first.

for ibook, apple is trying to add features (larger HDD, faster cpu etc) and maintain the price.

however, recently apple is adding some entry level models such as the $999 ibook and the $1799 15" Powerbook.

yeap.. check w/ the university book store or look for some friends/relatives working for apple... usually will get some discounts.

There is not a $1799 15" Powerbook. The cheapest 15" is $2299.

The 12" Powerbook is $1799.

Apple usually times their price decreases to coinside with Steve Jobs' keynote speeches at the MacWorld expo. I wouldn't expect any hot deals, though, because Apple seems to consistantly stick with a 25% price premium over a comparively featured system from Gateway or Dell.

Oh well. I guess that buying an Apple is like buying consumer electronics from Bose or Sony. You're going to pay extra for the cool styling and the prestige brand name.

Or perhaps just a laptop that has a longer battery life, runs cooler, is lighter, and arugably has a more powerful, stable OS? That performs at *effectively* the same speed as a PC laptop.

Oh, you're one of THOSE people. You believe everything that Apple's marketing department dishes out, don't you?

Anyway, do yourself a favor and look at the benchmarks for the new Pentium M laptops. Most of them will handily defeat a Powerbook in both performance and battery life.
