how often do you turn off your laptops?

It's on 8:45am to 5:15pm, gets put to Hibernate, on at 6:15pm to 8:00am, then put to hiberate. Repeat.

doesnt the heat shorten the lifespan of the components inside??

um, they don't keep charging the battery after it's full...
 
My work laptop (T20) goes back and forth with me every day, and I hibernate it when on the move. It's probably only been shutdown or restarted once or twice in the last month.
 
Mine stays on standby all the time, unless I'm traveling more than a couple hours away. Then I hibernate it.
 
I have a Dell Latitude c840 that I leave on all the time in the docking station

No troubles yet and has been like that for months
