i usually just install Windows, and leave it there till it screws up so bad...

reboot, usually never used to turn off computer, and only rebooted when there were Windows updates installed, but now that i have a laptop, i tend to turn it off every night...

About once every 6 months. Just to refresh my computer. Reboot often, like every two days.

About once every 2 or 3 months. I keep getting viruses that are too hard to remove so a format wipes them out. But I don't mind usually takes about 3 or 4 hours to install everything back as I have all my data on CDs

i completely destroy oses and hardware. i've been named at my school and home by friends and teachers a killer of hardware. I have done far more good than bad, but when you deal with comps for many hours a day, the bad adds up. i dont know why, but my luck seems to be crappy. I've killed hard drives accidentally with software (osx actually) irreparably, I've chipped cores down to non-working status. i've accidentally put 2.3v through poor 1.5v cpus, the list goes on. did i mention that I've had at least 12 gallons of water spilled either through, in, from, or around my computer in the last six months alone? I've had over a quart go over my video card, while in operation under full load, but it still works (using it now). It seems that a lot of stuff I break is bad luck and is either easily fixable or completely destroyed. and yes, the rate of destruction of oses is faster than hardware. luckily i keep my registry entries (only for the specific programs) backed up so a reinstall of most of my software is just a 30 second frenzy of clicking and adding registry entires. btw, unreal tournament 2003,2004, and 2004 demo can be used under a fresh reinstall with just adding the proper registry entries. the only software I reinstall with windows is itunes and mbm 5, along with drivers. I have the two drivers (mobo and vid) in a folder so no downloading is necessary. overall, a complete reinstall of my os along with skinning and all software operational takes less than an hour

It's been nearly 2 years since I last installed XP.

As far as rebooting, I shut the computer down once or twice a week, just depends on my mood.

I don't get all the people that try to leave their computers one for as long as possible....who cares? XP boots up so fast that it really doesn't slow you down.

I've had my laptop for over a year, and I haven't reformatted it since then.

My usual activities on the laptop is pretty routine, i don't really download things unless I want to hear a song or install things on here, I have just what I need

I tend to reformat every few months, or when something f*cks up, or when i install new hardware.

Lately i've been re-imaging more though, rather than reformatting, since that's much faster.

As for reboots, on my dl/ul computer, maybe every week or two when something's not downloading or uploading.

On my main comp, i usually reboot frequently, since i turn it off often to save power & avoid the noise, since its fans are noisy.

Linux box, I reboot twice per year, install new distro or get tired of old distro maybe once every 2 or 3 years..

My main windows box, I am still running my original win2k Install from 4 years ago.

other boxes ... I format/install more frequently, however I do all of my experimentation in those boxes ...

EDIT ... sorry, I forgot about mobo upgrades ... I think this is my second install, since when I upgraded from one VIA chipset to another VIA chipset to another VIA chipset ... with various speed Athlons ... I didnt have to reinstall ..
However when I upgraded to my nforce2 ... I had to reinstall .....

Maybe once every couple years.

I'd be running on a 2+ year old XP install if I hadn't had a hard-drive fail about 6 months ago.

Using a ~3 year old Linux installation on main box, about due for a rebuild. Uptime is 4 days, 12 hours and 20 minutes. Before the power outage it was somewhere around 63 days.

3 or 4 times a year since xp came out. although when 98 was the norm it was usually twice a mounth.

I reboot my system only when I have to (updated drivers, new software...etc) which is usually less than once a mounth

Weird...I just posted a similar question in the OS forum. I just looked at my file server and I haven't done anything to it since installing 756 days ago. Running win2k btw. Uptime is only a couple weeks (since the last windows update).

On my main rig running XP I renistall about once every 6 months, uptime's only 5 days.
