How often do you receive viruses? Poll inside.

My first poll thread.🙂
Sort of a curiosity thing; I receive at least once a day, sometimes twice, an e-mail containing the Klez virus. NAV finds it every time and I can delete it; I never recognize the sender, and it's different every time.

You should add more options.

I do not get 1-2 per week, more like one every other month.

Well I guess I'm just more popular than you. 😉

Badda bing, option added.🙂

Most likely, it IS the same person. Klez spoofs an address into the from: field. You have to open the mail, check the header info to see who it's really from. I was getting 2-10 per day for about a week (ISP has spam and virus filtering provided by postini.com, so I never really got the virus!), but by inspecting the header, I was able to put a stop to it. In this particular case, it was coming from a computer just identified as a dsl account through a particular ISP. I contacted the ISP -- they said they wouldn't tell me who the particular IP address belonged to, but they did contact that person. It must have worked, since they've stopped.

Well it might be forging the headers too - I've done that; it usually appears to come from a Hotmail or Yahoo account - something free like that - but the header says different. Unfortunately, the headers are different too - about half are from AOL accounts; the one today is from a Roadrunner account; this one is from a Roadrunner server in Texas - according to the header anyway.

How do you guys manage to get so many viruses? I've gotten a couple in my entire lifetime. It's just rare. WTF do you guys do? 😉 Submit your email addresses to as many untrustable sites as possible? 😛

Nope, no idea. Funny thing is, I almost never get any junkmail at all, either to my main e-mail, or even my eBay address.

I got a couple in the eight years that I've been using computers. They were so rare that I never even bothered to install anti-virus software. Then in September I moved into residence in University. Now they're a weekly occurance.

I haven't gotten any in recent memory. The wife has received 3 virus infected emails in the past year or two though.

I've gotten ONE in the time I've been using computers at home (10+ years). At work, we've seen a few here and there, but at best it would equate to about 1 every year or two.

Unfortunately with malware (like Klez) that harvests e-mail addresses from address books, the To and CC fields of e-mails, etc. you don't have to "submit" your e-mail addy to anyone but a single incautious acquaintance. People who put your name along with two dozen names in the To or CC fields on their e-mail client are exposing your e-mail addy to the possibility of harvesting through any of the other possible recipients of the e-mail. If just one of them has Klez, your e-mail address will be probably be showing up along with a faked header on the system of somebody who will be taking your name in vain every five seconds until he gets his system cleaned up -- and probably for several days afterward. If he's even the type of user who'll be aware that his system is infected.

Everyone should tell their friends that do "multiple mailings" that BCC is our friend. Better yet, just cut out the damned multiple mailings. What is it with these people who consider themselves the "town crier", anyway? 😀

I have never received a virus via email in all the 7+ years I've been using computers. I was on a website once about 10 months ago and NAV popped up a warning about some virus. I quaranteened it and them deleted it. First virus ever for me.

My dad however, gets several per week in his email. I've done several of the klez repair things and they still keep coming.🙁
