I commute to college, so whenever my mom tells me to get them ready for her/my brother/my sister/me to take a big load down to the laundromat. They'll wash theirs at home more often, but I usually get a good cleaning every month or two. Cool thing tho is that I don't actually sleep with a normal bed setup. I had all of my sheets and quilts washed one time, but I got around to needing sleep before I had made up the bed. So, I just threw the quilt on the bed and wrapped up in it and slept. It felt so damn good that I said screw sheets and have slept with a quilt since then. I have one of those egg carton foam pads on the bed for cushioning though, so whenever you roll over and touch it, it feels all itchy and whatnot. So I eventually put just the bottom sheet on to keep from touching that.
grasshopper - Ugh, you need to wash them after every use, no matter if you can see a mess or not.
Once a week is probably the healthiest, although my quilts smell fresh even after a month.
