How often do you open your case... and play with the gooey insides?

I built my pc last summer and I have opened it three times since then:

1. to put in an extra fan and a floppy drive

2. to install my new soundcard

3. to check if it was dusty in there (it wasn't) :D

Other than those times I leave my baby alone!

How about the rest of you? Constantly tweaking and tinkering or just letting things be?

I WANT TO KNOW!! ;)

Cheers,
KT

I'm forever finding something to tinker with on my pc but I'll hit all the pcs in my house with the compressor once a month.

As long as it's relatively clean and running smoothly, I stay out of there. I work from home, so I like my PC on.

Do you think it is actually necessary to clean it out every month? The few times I have opened mine it has looked relatively clean, even though it is in the same room as my pet rabbit.

Depends on where and how you live, my house is near the highway with forced air heat, 3 smokers, 4 pets, plus my workshop is 1/2 the basement. Major dust. If your house is clean, no you don't need to clean your system as often, open the side and look, when the fans have fur,,,, CLEAN.

As little as possible, but between cleanings and upgrades, I am probably in there at least once a month.

Only when I have to. Blow out dust from fans, filters, etc...Reapply thermal paste when necessary, and the occassional upgrade.

My place is relatively clean so I'm rarely inside the case unless I'm upgrading or messing with some components.

Dig out the potatoes and other crops from the dust that accumulates, clean it out, occasionally switch hard drives about if I need something off an older one, generally messing about but not just for its own sake. Once a month or so.

Routinely, I open the side door to connect a power cable to my reserve drive - then I clone drive 1 to drive 2. Then I disconnect drive 1's power and boot the system to drive 2. This, I rotate the two drives about every two weeks or when major software changes are made.

This rotates my drives and while giving one time off, it is also a ready to use replacement should something fail on the other drive.

Once a week I clean it out and make sure all the fans are working properly and are clean. Always want to make sure the temps are good.

Usually only for a bit of spring cleaning. However as I usually upgrade something every 6 months or so the cleaning usually happens then.
