How often do you go through workout gloves?

i'm considering buying a pair for deadlifts cuz my hands sweat and the bar starts to slip. alternate grip kind of helps.

I find my grip to be so much better without gloves. I haven't used them in years.

What is happening to them, are they tearing, not fitting correctly?

I have cheap ones too, I think they are gold's gym or something, and I've had them for 6 months, but they don't feel/look any different than when I bought them.

I've purchased 2 pairs of workout gloves over the past 10 years or so. I don't work out too often, maybe once or twice a week only.

My current gloves have been working fairly well ever since I got them.

In fact, I think they are actually capable of self-healing.

Does chalk leave residue behind? I work out at home, and we have a really thin carpet over concrete (dark blue) and I don't think my wife would be too thrilled if she needed to vacuum after I work out.

The gloves protect my hands from sores/calluses but I've heard chalk works really well also.

Well I am using a pair I have had for 5 years now. But I havent been lifting hardly at all for 5 years until the past 2 months now, so thats not a real comparison. But back when I lifted/worked out in the military at least 5 days a week I would got through a good pair of harbinger gloves about every year. Not that they would fall a part or really wear out, just was less then $10 bucks at the Navy NEX so why the heck not.

@Zooyuka, dear god your hands must be made of steal. The knarls on my dumbbells handles are over 12 years old and still sharp as nails.

They fit perfectly, which is why I keep replacing them with the same ones. I deviated from that once this year with a slightly more expensive version but not only did they also rip/tore apart, they were hard to take off and the Velcro wraps around my wrist which I don't like. I only need the bare minimum padding on my palm and only really use them for muscleups. It's the quick intense jerk and twisting action going from pullup to the dip position that's causing them to tear apart. Even with the gloves, I get still callouses. I do everything else barehanded.

If it's the knurling, why don't you wrap something around the bar? Pro-grade Teflon pipe tape, perhaps?

No gloves for me; there is no reason to use gloves unless you want girly hands.

No gloves for me either, but if darkxshade can do muscle-ups, he can wear friggin Hello Kitty gloves and I couldn't hold it against him

Got some from 5 and below for $5. They're pretty shitty and they're pretty fucked up but whatever. Minimizes calluses. Every couple of days or so I like to give myself the stranger so I like having soft hands.

I used to buy the Harbinger gloves that had the wrist wraps; I hurt my wrist while snowboarding one time, and those actually seemed to help. Would could through them every two to three years. However, since accidentally leaving my last pair at the gym about three years ago, I've just stopped using them altogether.

Got some with sharp knarls like that at the house...I just put electical tape around it lol. Haven't had any problems since.

chalk ftw

And people who get something out of using chalk just don't sweat enough. Or yeah...I sweat too much. To answer the guy's question from earlier though: yeah chalk will leave residue, no question.

eh? chalk helps you grip when your hands sweat. So you can do those nice big deadlifts.
