How often do you get a haircut and how much does it cost before tip?

I need your votes on how you often get a haircut and how much you pay to get an idea of some numbers. For now, it's limited to men's haircuts.

I was discussing the idea of a haircut salon that charges you once a year for "unlimited" haircuts - there would be a limit, maybe 3 every 2 months or so. I was proposing the idea of charging something like $100/year to a person and then they can get their haircuts only tipping each time. Families would be able to get special rates and such because they'd have more people to bring here.

Let's not get hung up on thoughts like the "unlimited" term and such, or the rate itself.

Benefits of this:
1. Pay once in a year, not every time
2. Since you're selling haircuts for a year, you can discount it on a whole compared to just a single cut
3. Paying that one time fee isn't that great of a feeling, but after that, it'll be nice walking in without swiping that credit card. Instead of a monthly fee or whatever, it's just a yearly thing.
4. Since you're only paying once, chances are in the future you will psychologically feel a less burden and be willing to tip more than normal.
5. It's unique and a new idea, the business would get some attention just for that.

I'm looking for comments/thoughts on this, not "you've got a stupid idea and there's no way in hell I would have even posted this thread if I were you," but rather reasons for why this isn't a good idea.

I get my hair cut about every other month. It used to cost $15 including the tip, but the place I went to raised prices by about $2. If I get my haircut at school, it's $18 at the barbershop. I'm thinking about letting my hair grow a little more though, so it may be more than 2 months between my previous haircut and my next one.

I get my hair cut every other month. It costs about 16ish dollars with tip. If you made it so wemon could do this you would get alot of customers. They would buy it and get their hair trimmed every week or so.

This is part of what irritates me - the places nearby closed and consolidated to a single larger location, they were part of the same chain. They got rid of the people that had been cutting my hair for 10+ years and the new location charges more and rushes each customer in and out like cattle. The manager is a PITA too.

I get my hair cut when I feel like it or when I have to.
I either wing it or get my mom to do it. I also have some stylist friends.

Every 4 weeks.

20 bucks, 5 buck tip.

The reason for the tip is because she'll take me anytime I'm available, no matter what. Late weekends, late workdays, whatever...I call and she say's "when".

-edit-
Total time is 30-40 minutes

That's a good point - trim wouldn't take much time would it?

I get one every 4 weeks or so.

I get a free cut at a salon (normally like $35 + tip for the cut) but I'm friends with the owner and his wife, and have known them since before they opened the salon, and the chick cuts my hair for free.

I give her $10 though every time.

I get mine cut pretty short every two months or so, and in between that I go to get the back hairline trimmed. I like having the short look for the first month and a shaggy look the second. The regular cut is $18 and I generally leave a $4 tip, and the back trim is $6 and I leave a $2 tip, $3 if they offer to trim the sides for free (which they pretty much always do).

Edit: I'm sure if I paid by the year I'd go much more often, whatever the max is.

u'll be charging too little at $100 per year

also, ur clients will need some sort of assurance that u wont bail out after a month or two

it might work in a small town environment, but I doubt that it would work in a large city - unless u open up a chain

I should get it cut ever 3 weeks. In reality it turns into every 2+ months. My hair goes through phases. Initially it looks a little too short, but after a few days it looks good for the next couple of weeks, then it starts to look a little shaggy for a while, then as it gets longer the added weight (I assume) keeps the strays under control and it starts looking good again, then as it starts to get too long I keep saying I need to get a haircut, and about 3 weeks later I'll finally have it cut.

My wife cuts it, so it's free.

Your idea isn't bad, but a lot of people live paycheck to paycheck and aren't willing to pay for a year's worth of haircuts at once even if it could save them money in the long run.

I'm on about every 4 months right now with trimming my neck and sideburns in between; I suppose college will do that to you. Haven't had a haircut since when I got home for winter break, and I won't get another until a few weeks into May. Right now it depends on what my girlfriend wants for prom, personally I really couldn't care less though.

Whenever a big event comes up. Comes to about $27-30, for a good cut, hair thinning, and style.

I used to get my hair cut at no more than 2 week intervals. IIRC, it was about $10-$15 plus a couple $$ tip. Wore it high & tight, just long enough to piss of a first sargent. Haven't cut it in about 3 years now, and while having long hair is a PITA, it's not as bad as finding a decent haircutter...all too many of them want to cut your hair how THEY want it...NOT how YOU want it...
