So buy a new one, give them that one back? Or just stop paying and tell them to come take it back? Then take the new one with you when you move? lol.

I don't think you can take a tank with you when you move that's considered part of house. But yeah I do have the option to buying new, which I do plan to do eventually then I will look at canceling contract. Either way there is a cost to doing that.

They want more money than what the tank is worth so it's not worth it, I had looked into that. Last I checked the buyout was around $900, I can buy a similar new tank for about that much. I'm eyeing a hybrid one though they are electric but also have heat pump. About 3k though... I can get a tankless gas for 2k. Or just go with the basic model for about 1k. Long term efficiency is something to keep in mind though, the conventional ones are like 40% efficient at best and it's a matter of time until natural gas prices go up. So yeah I need to just decide what to go with, and just do it. Just not a priority right now as far as expenses go. But faster I do it more I save long term.

I flush mine every year in November. I've never changed or even checked the anode rod since the blower motor is right on top of it, so I can't even get to it without removing the motor. It'll be 10 years old in 2 days, so I'll be 10 for 10 this year!

I've been thinking about replacing it sooner rather than later and going with a heat pump model, but mine is gas and is fairly cheap to run already.

I remember getting bags of milk when visiting my grandmother in northern Wisconsin when I was a kid too.

Technically that's right, you need to keep heating the hot water for it to stay hot. 😛

I was prepared for ATOT and specifically went out of my way and called it a "cold water heater".
