how often do you cook?

I know how to cook scrambled eggs and oatmeal. I usually cook these 2-3 times a week. But that's pretty much it.

I generally cook (or get whatever we're eating ready) 4 or 5 times a week as I finish work earlier than my wife. I try and cook a 'proper' meal 3 or 4 times a week but always have something quick like pasta and pesto just in case 🙂

Never. I pour cerial, that's the most I've ever cooked. The problem, however, is that I have offered to cook my girlfriend a gourmet dinner for our 2 year anniversery. Which is in 8 days. And I have no idea what I'm making. And I have hardely ever used the toaster, much less ever touched the oven/stove.

Oh yes, I'm in trouble.

No problem - keep it simple and you can still put together something really special. You could easily do a Mozzarella and Tomato salad together as a starter and then a simple pasta dish with a four cheese sauce would be really easy to follow up with. I've got some recipes if you want them

something simple that i like to cook is salmon with some pasta.. just get a couple salmon steaks (or filets, whichever floats your boat), salt and pepper them.. pat of butter on the top, a slice of lemon maybe some garlic if you're into that, and throw it in a 350ish degree oven, and wait about... oh i dunno... 15 mins or so.. maybe 20..

during this time, make some pasta.. for an easy sauce, throw some butter into a pan, throw some diced garlic into it, and toss the pasta into the butter/garlic "sauce"... it's not really a sauce.. and you don't need much.. just make sure to salt the water for the pasta before you cook it.. it should taste like sea water.... if you don't think you can do this, get some sorta pasta sauce.. those packages of pesto work great..

also get some veggies.. a can of corn, some mixed frozen veggies, whatever you like really.. personally, i like to put a pat of butter (yes, more butter) into a pan, let it melt, then throw in some brussel sprouts (which have been previously boiled) into it.. pretty tasty.. i made this for my fiance on our second date...

to make it a full night, get a movie.. something sappy and girly.. and some dessert... even pound cake with some sliced strawberries and whipped cream is good.. enjoy that, then enjoy each other... have fun, and congrats on the 2 years

edit: sorry for the way off topicness of my post... i cook pretty much any night that we're not at the future-in-laws... so i cook about 4-5 times a week

It's never too late to learn how to cook, unless of course you promised to cook something by a deadline. You need to practice cooking right away, start with eggs, they're relatively simple. Familiarize yourself with kitchen measuring implements.
Ultimate Egg Recipe
1. Crack four large eggs into a large mixing bowl. (That's without the shells.) Mix thoroughly until they are light in color and frothy in texture.
2. Add two cups of sugar, mix well.
3. Add one tsp (that's a teaspoon) of vanilla (optional)
4a. In a separate bowl, add two sticks of butter (.5 pounds). microwave until melted (~2min.)
4b. Measure 12 level tablespoons (tbsp) cocoa into the butter. Mix quickly by hand (meaning with a fork, knife, or best yet a rubber scraping spatula.) (Instead of cocoa 4oz baking chocolate may be substituted)
4c. Get a level cup of flour handy.
5. Add cocoa and butter mix to eggs, mix briefly.
6. Add flour, mix well.
7. Pour into a greased baking pan ~9.5*11*3 inches w*L*h
8. bake at 325F for 20 minutes; it is done when you can put a clean knife into the center and take it out without a lot of chocolate stuck to it.

Your SO may prefer it if you add walnuts to the recipe. If she says so, then repeat and add walnuts.

If you start now and turn the oven on while you work, it could take as little as an hour. Don't forget to wash all the dishes afterwards right away.

Remember, there are tons of recipes that are simple to use and turn out great. But for better help from the forum, why don't you describe what kind of food she likes? Does she love garlic? If so, then make a pizza with lots of extra fresh garlic. Does she love chocolate? see above recipe. Does she like cookies with nuts? Buy nestle chocolate chips and use the recipe on the bag. Is she vegetarian? What does she like on her pizza? Does she prefer deep dish or thin crust?

Whatever you do practice cooking every day between now and then.
