I follow the severe schedule's 5,000 mile recommendation even though I clearly fit the normal schedule (10,000 mile recommendation).

Twice a year - once in the fall and again the following spring. That usually amounts to 5,000 miles between changes.

The normal schedule is usually over optimistic, IMO. 10K mile change interval is way too long in real world (for conventional oil).

i have a 4mm diameter hole in the oil cap plug and so my oil gets topped up every trip. so i effectively change my oil every 4 days. i can barely stand in my garage its so slick in there:)

I change mine every 4,000 and it is dark and I use syntethic. I also put one of those oil cleanners in there too with each change. I do try to do it at 3,000 but I forget, but I've never gone past 4,000. Changing it every 6,000 miles ..the oil must be pitch black.

~ 3k miles -- less with cheap oil, more with good stuff.

I've never had a motor problem and I usually run a vehicle to ~150k miles.

that's normal condition schedule. If you use conventional oil, that's a little too long. Few ppl recommend >5000 on conventional oil.

Especially on an engine like his. 7800 rpm and dirty oil don't mix

Well, I don't drive hard, if that makes any difference. When I hear VTEC, I hear $$$ draining from my pocket... I have no idea if synthetic oil lasts longer, but that's what I use(Mobil 1 5w-30, cuz I can get 5qts for about $23 at Wal-Mart :thumbsup;). I've been adding oil after 3000 ~ 4000 miles, because this engine burns oil, which I've read is normal for the Preludes' engine.

Roughly every 7,000-9,000 miles.

A good running engine does *not* need to be changed every 3,000 miles. And I use good oil. (Royal Purple)

Even on normal oil, an engine generally doesn't need it every 3,000 miles. Look up the details on google.
Yes, there are many debates and arguments about this. Following the manufacturers specs are best.

I change every 3-4K. Which is once a month with my driving.

If you drive less than 3,000 miles in 3 months, you should go by Time.

Oil degrades whether it is being circulated through the engine or not. Infact, it can actually degrade faster when it is not heated enough to boil off impurities regularly.

'98 Mazda Protege..
I change oil every 3000 miles (+/- 100 miles) which is every 6-8 weeks.
Correction: I take my car for an oil change every 3k miles or so.

Here's an idea, buy a new drain plug instead of polluting everywhere you drive! :p

My manual says 5000 miles, I use AMSOIL and change it every 7500. I could go longer, but I figure $30 for the oil and filter vs. $17,000 for the car...

bad joke;)

was gonna fix it to like 2mm hole or whatever, cuz 4mm would empty too quickly to even by plausible:p
