Interesting replies, probably a good cross-section of society as a whole (at least those with decent jobs).
Last week I went to an Indian restaurant with an old friend who was in town for the day. While we were there a party of six came in and was given a table near us (the place was practically empty; why do Indian restaurants like to seat people so close together even when it's not necessary?). I could see they were all employees of the big insurance company headquartered in town. The group consisted of 2 Indian guys and 1 Indian girl, 2 Asian girls, and a white girl, all probably in their late 20s. The Indians in particular were very good looking (the woman looked like a Bollywood actress), but the rest were attractive as well. It made me wonder if big corporations are like high school, and cliques develop according to attractiveness.
Anyway - they must have come straight to the restaurant from work, and it soon became clear that they weren't just co-workers but actually part of some team. For most of my meal I could hear them discussing whatever it was they were currently engaged in and they were really into it. These were not claims workers: I couldn't hear everything but I could glean is that it was tech related, but on a higher level like programming. They also spent a fair amount of time discussing certifications. Listening to their non-stop energetic chatter, I couldn't help but feel some jealousy rising up in me. I've never even been able to muster that sort of zeal for work. Ever.
Of course I can't know what it's like for them from 9-5, but couldn't help but feel that they might have a similar enthusiasm when they're actually at their jobs. Maybe I've never had the right co-workers.
I've made up my mind: before I die I want to experience one fricking day where I wake up and am excited to get to my job.
