Hate it. I don't sleep early because I don't want it to be morning, I wake up late show up "late" (practically set my own hours because no one gives a shit) every day, then yearn for the weekend.

I finally get why some people go into prostitution.

Not everyday, but I enjoy what I do so that helps things. Had some things change in my life recently that's made me a bit less interested in working, but overall even if I didn't need the money I'd probably still do the job. I just wouldn't work nearly as diligently at it. If I had to deal with less bs and got paid fairly I'd probably be significantly more excited about it.

New job Wednesday in a whole new line of work. Nervous, excited, not getting sleep all rolled into one.

I've worked every shift there is. Each one has its ups and downs. Second shift is good for people that like to sleep in and enjoy night life. Third is good in the sense you don't have much supervision and times you go to the grocery store it's basically empty. Having said that first shift is by far the best.

 that's awesome. Glad you found a great gig

That's what it boils down to in IT. It's so incredibly dependent on the company. I worked in a shop that I loved even though it was at a fairly large company. It was just a great culture. Then I followed by boss to a shit hole of a company and I hated life and everyone who populated the world around me. I've never been so truly miserable. Being surrounded by gross incompetence, epic misery, and ridonkulous expectations can really kill your joy for life.

I now consult for a few small companies and it's great. I'm bummed because the best of the bunch is price shopping their IT services as we speak. They have a great culture and I think they'll stick with the vendor I'm working for, but if they don't, it would be an emotional loss for me because I know how hard it is to come by places like that.

It's just a job. Not any excitement about it but not dreadful either. Good boss & coworkers. Pay is adequate...

At my last job? Almost never. I was miserable. At my current job I'm excited to go in every day.

Never. But the money is good and it keeps me in shape. There are far worse things I could be doing for lot less pay. So I'm thankful everyday even though I don't care for it.

Interesting replies, probably a good cross-section of society as a whole (at least those with decent jobs).

Last week I went to an Indian restaurant with an old friend who was in town for the day. While we were there a party of six came in and was given a table near us (the place was practically empty; why do Indian restaurants like to seat people so close together even when it's not necessary?). I could see they were all employees of the big insurance company headquartered in town. The group consisted of 2 Indian guys and 1 Indian girl, 2 Asian girls, and a white girl, all probably in their late 20s. The Indians in particular were very good looking (the woman looked like a Bollywood actress), but the rest were attractive as well. It made me wonder if big corporations are like high school, and cliques develop according to attractiveness.

Anyway - they must have come straight to the restaurant from work, and it soon became clear that they weren't just co-workers but actually part of some team. For most of my meal I could hear them discussing whatever it was they were currently engaged in and they were really into it. These were not claims workers: I couldn't hear everything but I could glean is that it was tech related, but on a higher level like programming. They also spent a fair amount of time discussing certifications. Listening to their non-stop energetic chatter, I couldn't help but feel some jealousy rising up in me. I've never even been able to muster that sort of zeal for work. Ever.

Of course I can't know what it's like for them from 9-5, but couldn't help but feel that they might have a similar enthusiasm when they're actually at their jobs. Maybe I've never had the right co-workers.

I've made up my mind: before I die I want to experience one fricking day where I wake up and am excited to get to my job.

Can't say I've ever been excited to go to work. I've had jobs where I dreaded going to work, but I don't hate my current job at all. Like my hours, where I work, my co-workers, etc, but there are many, many, MANY other things I'd much rather be doing than working. They call it "work" for a reason!

I understand your point, but I don't think we're talking about the same thing.
