Pretty much never... and it is not because I dislike what I do... but because if the opportunity cost.

Put another way, this is certainly not what I would spend ~40 hours of my week if I was independently wealthy.

Every day I enjoy going to work. Not necessarily because of the work itself but because of the awesome people I work with. The chemistry and banter between us is priceless. It's a small graphic/webdesign design studio of 7 people. We all have a lot of autonomy to work too, aside from client meetings.

The work itself it also enjoyable since it's all about being creative and innovative in the process. No two designs are ever the same. My favorite time during the week is when we brainstorm together. It keeps the mind fresh. It feels like each one of us as a direct impact on the success of the company since it is so small. It does feel like play a lot of the time.

Generally, I think there is a correlation between job satisfaction and creativity. People like to see the fruits of their labor. Many just feel like a cog in a giant machine at larger companies.

I also think the word 'work' gets a bad rep because of its association with unenjoyable things. I think most people would have no problem 'working' towards something they actually care about, they may actually enjoy it.

Used tobe. Back when they had Engineering doing interesting R&D projects. Now I mostly price new products, help manage inventory and ordering of supplies, deal with some vendors and haggle on pricing, and remedy issues in the Shop, because there aren't many people left there who can handle those sorts of things :\

Such is the burden of being generally competent.

(Or I could just be a little irritable - lately there's been an awful lot of "dealing with people" to be done each day. Phonecalls, meetings, vendors, sales reps, contract manufacturers..... I like the days when I get to interact almost exclusively with inanimate objects. Every direct interaction with almost any other person just wears me down, a little bit at a time. )

I love my job but I can't say I've ever been excited to go. Given the choice and money being no object, I would rather stay home. Sometimes I might kinda look forward to find out something, like if I was working on a trouble before I was done the day before I'm curious to see what came of it, but that's about it.

That said I do have more enthusiast going in for a night shift, as I'm not as tired as when I have to get up early to go. In the morning I'm just a zombie dreading being up instead of sleeping, till noon hits then I'm not as tired.

Now my last job, I used to DREAD going every day. I'm soooo glad I took this current job when it came up.

I'm indifferent towards it. I don't go in stoked to start the day, but I don't hate it either. I get to do what I went to school for, get paid for it. I work in a clean, warm building and most of the people are pleasant. There's the usual corporate BS to deal with but nothing I can't handle. Christmas party is coming up, which the owner goes all out for.

Sometimes I think I'd rather be doing production. I enjoy doing mobiles. A lot of those jobs are still unionized though.

I wish I could get excited about my job, but I seem to spend most of my time testing other people's buggy code.

Occasionally I get an infrastructure project to work on, but those projects are rare.

I enjoy going to work just about every day. I don't have to be there until 8am, but show up around 6:30am anyway.

Obviously, we're in the minority. It's depressing, but I can't say that it doesn't jive with what I've seen from the American work force since I entered the job market.

I swear, if I were starting another software company today, I'd start it in India or China. Why pay people who aren't thrilled about working, when there are plenty of people who would be? Not to mention the fact that of every ten software engineers that I've worked with in the past twenty years, only two or three are truly competent. The rest are hacks who should be mopping floors or doing computer support and replacing keyboards and hard drives.

I have no problems mentally getting started with my day - a lot has to do with working from home (not having to wake and jump in the shower while half asleep then get dressed and ready to face the world), and I truly do love the work I do (web apps). Pay isn't great and despite knowing that I am underpaid, it would take a very significant increase to make me leave voluntarily. In a way, I am stuck - so for all of you who make good coin but hate going to work, "the grass is always greener".

THIS

What are you doing now if you don't mind me asking?

sysadmin for a textiles manufacturer. "cant spin, cant dye, cant pack" and we have a problem. IT wise the infrastructure is in good shape because they are not willing to tolerate a downtime in production.

i like the place a lot, so far, and i like the size of the IT dept (4 knowledgeable people), the vendor and managed services support we have and what i get to do on a daily basis so far.

far and away a better environment than the consulting firm I was at (consulting might be ok if the company was decent, but they sucked) or the medical group IT dept i interned in (220 IT support staff, thousands of users and pcs, etc)

Are you kidding? I started pissing my pants the minute I left the office in anticipation of tomorrow! If it weren't for the family, I'd never leave.

Zero - I work to make money & socialize - no other reason as I could find 100 other things I'd rather be doing.

For me your question is akin to asking Prometheus how often he looks forward to having his liver torn out.
