Anyone use DHL shipping much? How often do they arrive on time? Have they every got your shipment to you earlier or later than the expected time? Looking forward to the praises and rants.

I used them for nearly two years before I kicked their asses to the curb. I'd say that they were on time 99% of the time and a third of those were early.

I work for USPS (Cust. Support). If DHL drops a package off at your post office for the USPS to make a final delivery, we (the USPS) don't give a crap...I've seen packages just stay at Post offices for months and not get delivered. THey go the lowest priority (same for UPS packages were USPS makes the final delivery). Half my DHL-USPS delivery complaints are about T-Mobile phones, too...

That was the only time I had to worry about a late delivery with DHL. DHL couldn't deliver to the address, so they gave it to the post office. Ended up taking 3 weeks for the person to get the package.

Ahh.. What prompted the switch? DHL is quite a bit cheaper than UPS in most cases....

So DHL goes through USPS? I guess that's very possible, as i've never seen a DHL truck.

Do i have to sign for the package? Any chance they ship on the weekends or at least on Saturday?

I think only their lower tier shipping services use USPS. They basically deliver it to the local post office, and then let them deliver it. I believe their overnight and second day service is all DHL...

So is it more likely to be delivered by USPS than DHL? Again i've never seen a DHL truck...Any chance i could go pick up my package somewhere? I'm still confused about DHL.

not always, it was the case before we bought airborne. Now we pretty much deliver anywhere in the US. It is still an option as it is pretty cheap for the cutomer to use as a shipping method. But those same drivers who take the packages to the USPS will also be the ones delivering packages to your door.

I've never had a problem with DHL or Airborne pickups.

I've only used DHL/Airborne overnight, and it's always gotten there on time.

The company I work for switched to DHL from UPS earlier this year. After NUMEROUS complaints from our customers not getting their samples on time (or sometimes not at all), we switched back to UPS. Not to mention all the missed pick-up times as well. :disgust:

Let me guess, do you work for a lab? My clients were having similar problems.

I could never ship consistantly with UPS, because I'm always worried about them destroying stuff.

Plus they're expensive, it cost me $8.51 to ship a 3.90lbs package to california (ground, no insurance)

I've only gotten a package from airborne express, never dhl because no one ever ships dhl.

From another thread:

I just stopped using DHL for my main shipping provider...

[*]It's not b/c they're slow. They aren't, they're actually faster with ground delivery than UPS or Fedex, especially coast to coast for me.

[*]It's not b/c I've had problems with delivery. They've shipped hundred of packages for me over the past two years with only two incidents which were both resolved rather quickly.

It all boils down to a billing issue which started when they began to merge their Airborne and DHL customer accounts into one.

I am set up for online billing with DHL. So I print out all of my labels, then every few weeks I get an online bill with a listing of my airbill nubmers, how much they charged me and then I pay it with credit card. This all worked quite well for well over a year. That was until they started merging the two systems. After merging, they started charging me at random $3 pickup fees for my packages (I take all of my packages to authorized drop centers, so I should not be charged a pickup fee). I could drop off 5 packages at an authorized DHL drop center, and they would charge me pickup fees for maybe 2. Then the next day, I could drop off 10 packages, and they would charge me a $3 pickup fee each for 6 of them. There was no rhyme or reason to their charges, it was just done at random.

So I called up DHL and talked to a CSR. They told me, "Ohh, we'll fix it, no problem." Weeks and weeks go by and nothing happens. So I call my DHL account representive and tell her what's going on. She sighs and says that I'm not the first one to mention the problem. She tells me that once they merged the two systems, they encountered all sort of problems. And the customers that had the MOST problems were the ones that had previous Airborne accounts (me being one of them). So she tells me to type up all of the airbill numbers affected and send them to her in an email and she was have them resolve the issue. I did so and within two weeks I had a check for nearly $100 worth of $3 pickup charges. I then asked her if I would have to do this EVERY time they charged me a pickup fee in error. She told me "Unfortunately, yes." She said that b/c I use online billing, there's no way for her to adjust it in the system and I have to contact THEM whenever there is an issue. Go figure!! I wonder how many people haven't even noticed the charges and just pay the bill.

Well, after I got my check, I got another invoice with 5 shipments listed. Two of them had the $3 pickup charge that wasn't supposed to be there. At that point I just said "Fvck You" and transferred all of my heavy shipping over to UPS. Works out better for me anyway b/c UPS integrates with eBay and PayPal and the rates aren't THAT much higher.

I use them at work all the time for international shipping. They do Los Angeles to Hong Kong in 1-2 days so that's all right.

never shipped DHL... got DHL packages
Logitech RMA-DHL GROUND... dunno but it was left infront of my doorstep(fairly big box)

MICRSOFT uses them a lot
OVERNIGHT 10:30-was sleeping and my dad got it... it was around 10ish
But for MS... I never know when they are coming so I can't say

OUTPOST:
forgot :p
PICKUP IS FVCKING LAMEEEEEEE....

SOUTH BOSTON:UPS, FEDEX INTERNATIONAL, USPS, DHL warehouses... parking, etc.
DHL... wasn't here... went to pickup took a while to find it, no BIG SIGN or ANYTHING
Until I passed by a dark brown/blackware house and I see DHL trucks and a small sign near the door
The parking was full of DHL vans/cars(workers), it was around 8 cars for the lot
I was thinking that this wasn't the place...(compared to FEDEX international center in SB)
So parked on the side of the road... went inside... SMALL AS HELL no chairs
I had to wait until a lady from the other room to come...
I think they are there to manage shipping in the warehouse

FEDEX INTER CENTER:
It is a warehouse and a shipcenter combined!
they have 2 people that are in UNIFORM and are assigned to register

well DHL=not good pickup... can't comment a whole lot... they don't seem professional
well since I live 10 minutes away from South Boston... a straight drive
I get my packages on time and early from all carriers :)

Bingo! We almost lost a few accounts because we couldn't meet customer requirements regarding on-time sample shipments.
