How noisy is Raptor compared to Seagate?

My G4 Digital Audio mac is really really loud 🙁 I have a older 10k rpm IBM SCSI drive in there

I also have a older Maxtor 60gig 7200rpm drive in there for storage, loud as well 🙁

I was thinking a Raptor 36gig for speed with a quiet 80gig Seagate for editing.

Your thoughts? 🙂

Technical IDE question:

If I had two hard drives on the same channel, data transfer from the master to the slave or vice versa would be slow due to the parallel nature of IDE?

I'm think Raptor=waste of money, especially a 36gb one. Just get the Seagate 7200 or the Hitachi 7200rpm and you'll be gold

When seeking or writing the Raptors are quite loud. When my 200GB seagate does the same thing it just a light little ticking noise.

Raptors can be a tad loud. I have two 74s which are suppose to be quieter but they are noticeably louder than my 400GB Seagate.

I don't really mind the seeking noise, but the idle noise on my SCSI drive is really really loud.

How is the idle noise of the raptor compared to the seagate?

Some say yes, I say no (as tests I have done show a sustained 40-50Mb/sec transfer rate between two drives on the same channel).

However, as a Raptor is a SATA drive, then you don't really need to worry about it.

Read this: My really big reply

Don't get a 36gb Raptor. They're hardly any faster than a good 8mb cache, 7200rpm SATA drive. The 74gb Raptor is faster by a noticeable amount though (compared to a 120gb Seagate 7200.7). My 74gb Raptor is very quiet when idling. It's much quieter than my Seagate 120gb drive. The Raptor's seek noise is pretty loud, but I don't mind seek noise.
