HI, new to the forum, and looking for some advice on a new build I am putting together. This system is for general use and medium duty gaming (WOW, etc) . I also do some video edtiing now and then. I have a 22" flat panel monitor I will re-use.

Key attributes I am looking for are quiet and cool on cutting edge hardware. I want to be able to upgrade to next generation CPU when available. I am currently running a Pentium 4 3.4 Ghz / 915 CS / Intel MB / ATIx800xl / stock CPU HS , fan / Antec 350W PS. During heavy loads, the system is very loud and heats up the room by about 10 degrees.

Proposed system:

Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R (or should I wait for X38?)
CORSAIR CMPSU-520HX PS
CORSAIR TWIN2X2048-6400C4 (2x1 GB)
Dual Seagaate SATA 500 GB in RAID 1 for data protection (videos / pictures)
Windows Vista Home Premium
Liteon SATA 20x DVD burner
media card reader
Cooler Master Centurion 5 case
E6750 or possibly Q6600 (will QC contribute to heat of system?)
Not sure on graphics card. Maybe EVGA 8800 GTS but have heard this card is hot.
Thinking of a ThermalRight Ultima 90 cooler (any suggestions here for quiet and cheap?)

Thanks!

Qc is bad heat wise.
8800GTS runs quiet, regardless of hotness
in gaming and most windows stuff E6750 is gonna be faster. I have quadcore at work, at most there's use for 2 cores. The hard drive becomes bad bottleneck.

THanks for the feedback. How much heat does that 8800 GTS put out? Is there much of a difference in heat output if I go with a lower end card such as 8600GTS or 7900GS?

sounds like a pretty quiet build but i think you'll want to get a case with 2 x 120mm fans

why 2x120 fans? to keep it quiet or for better cooling? Is it configured 1 front and 1 back?

Any recommendations on a decent, inexpensive case? How about the fans? Was thinking of Sythe S-Plex SFF21F.

Why? What's the problem with the RAID solution. My thinking was its totally transparent so its always backed up. What's the downside?
