I'm just wanting to get a feel for what the general consensus is when it comes time to invest in a gamers most precious installment.

That would be me as well. :p Probably somewhere around $500, although I spent $600 on the GTs. (but I made up for it since the XTX was "only" $400)

With my current financial situation, I go no higher than $200 USD

Highest I've paid so far was for this 6800GS for $180 right after last xmas

I'm selling my desktop entirely, but from now on if/when I built a gaming rig it will have a GPU that can play current games with some/all eye candy on at 1680x1050. So figure on $300-$400.

I only play old games, so almost any low-end card suffices for me. Under $100 & heatsink only... (currently a nvidia 6200)

I've never spent more than $200, and even then my friends/parents thought I was crazy...the answers in this part of the forum will definately be much higher than what the general public spends.

With the 7900GT at $230 right now that seems to be the sweet spot. I'm hoping that the G80 will be released with a sub $300 upgrade to the 7900GT (8900GT?). I won't be upgrading my monitor so a GTX\XTX seems like a lot of money for just 1680x1050 gaming.

I would spend ~$300, up to $350 depending on performance. As of now I would probably get a 7900GT and an aftermarket cooler for overclocking.

Paid $440 for my X800...thought it was overpriced and vowed never to spend more than $400 again for a video card. Bought my X1900XT for about $380'ish. I'm thinking my next card has to be in the same area or cheaper for me to upgrade.

I've never spent more than $300. My max resolution is 1280 x 1024, so it would be a waste for me to spend any more than that.

According to google UK£ 300 = 548.1 US$, so 5-600 I guess.

That's my max resolution too, and I can _only just_ max out everything on FEAR and Oblivion. I'm highly overclocked on all major components, you must have a super-card.
