How much would you save if you abstained for a month...

...from smoking (any kind), drinking alcohol, going to the movies and eating out/ delivery? Maybe also driving if you don't need your car for work. What computer part could this buy?

I drive about ten times more than I need to.

I go get food about five times as much as I should.

I'd actually probably save a ton.

This was one of my reasons I finally quit smoking. I realized I was wasting over $100 a month on something that was just making me feel like shit and would eventually kill me. Any more, I don't spend but about $30 a month on beer, and I only eat out maybe once a week. That's a pretty good chunk of change right there though. $150+ for me.

So far it's getting me unlimited monthly rides on the Metro, nice clothes, better food, good watches, and able to pay for bills nicely.

Holy crap? Belgian beer?

Alcohol and cigs are heavily taxed over here. I pay ~$12 - 18 for a dozen beers. 25 smokes costs $13.50. So I guess I overestimated by about $15.

Edit - I should mention that that's for very cheap beer. Decent beer is on the order of $18 - $25 / doz.

a few weeks ago I stopped getting fast food for lunch and packed a sandwich, saved 4 to 6 miles of driving and ~$6.00 a day on lunch alone.

Figuring $2.75/gallon, Thats $145/ month just cheapening my lunches. Not to mention its healthier.

Me and the gf also stopped getting so much takeout. Eat out maybe once a week, the rest of the time cook fresh using groceries. Again, saving avg of 5 miles of driving per meal (comes out to about $15), and about $125/person a month, conservatively. Not to mention its way better food, dont feel all groggy afterwards from all the fat and sugar of takeout.

All together, just by chopping out the fast food, I'm saving about $285 a month. My gf is saving about as much. Thats at least an extra $500 a month we throw at the mortgage or into savings in case we need it later.

I eat out for lunch almost every day, because it's the easiest thing to do at my job. I also do have to drive 15 miles each way to work, and then some work-time driving. But if I were able to somehow abstain from making any of the payments related to eating out or my vehicle, I'd be able to buy a new computer at least every other month.

About $360.

Cigs + beers + food (I eat out for basically everything except snacks)

The even more bad part is the ratio of beer money spent to food money spent is far larger than it should be!

The only thing keeping the total somewhat reasonable is I eat out somewhat cheap and I roll my own cigs... god damn NYS tax is jacked.
