How much would you pay for a Pontiac Parisienne?

How much would you pay for a big 1985 pontiac parsienne v8 305?

Owner says it "runs great...its fast....good tires.....some rust, but its a big old man car....cheap to insure"
He'll sell for $500 CDN, which is $300 US.

Anything I should know about the car?
 
I don't know about a 1985 model, but I had a 1977 that turned me off to GM for the last 25 years! I bought it used in about 1981 and only kept it a year. The first thing that ticked me off was the way the oil filter was situated. They had to shrink it to half normal size to fit between the block and frame. My engine was a 301ci, so that may have been the problem there.

The components used in it seemed cheap too. Small things like the electrical connectors etc.. The heater blower died, and when I saw how chintzy it was I wasn't surprised. One electric window motor went due to poor clutch design. The thing that caused me to bail altogether was the drone that came from the rear end. No big cruiser like that should have had such a poor sounding ride. I had a mechanic replace the inner bearings, but that didn't fix it. When he had it apart, he said the ring gear and pinion looked small enough to have come from a Pinto! After putting the rear end back together, it still droned. The A/C didn't work well and a few other things just caused me to trade it in on a used '78 Mercury Grand Marquis. Been in love with those ever since!

The newer Parisians may be a whole lot better, but I never took the chance to find out. The 305 is certainly better than a 301.

Edit: BTW, mine was called a Bonneville and it had all the bells and whistles. I believe it was known as the Parisienne in Canada.
 
Sure, for $300, what the hell? The Chevy 305 will be a good engine and easy to get parts for.

Actually, the big car was the Bonneville until like 1982 or so when Pontiac transferred the name to the mid-size (e.g. Malibu). Then the big car became the Parisienne. Seems Pontiac
thought big cars weren't long for this world and they didn't want their precious Bonneville moniker going the way of the dodo.

The 305 is a bulletproof engine. Rust can be sanded/bondo-ed.

Ornery: I feel for you. The 301 V8 was the biggest piece of crap and probably biggest mistake Pontiac ever made (even counting the Pontiac 2.5L 4).
 
My 1983 olds Delta 88 lasted until 175k, the 5l 305 4 barrel carb. engine was working like a charm, but too much body rust caused me to fail the new more strickt state inspections.

The car was fantastic.
