Okay, so i am getting closer to Christmas sale purchase of laptop.

I want hign end notebook,
Good enough to run World of Warcraft on highest settings and do other stuff while doing that. like Working with photoshop, surfing the web, and listening to music and watching videos.

Specs i am looking into:

60GB HDD (dont need more than 60) with AT LEAST 7200RPM (5400RPM = dont want...too slow for World of Warcraft)
2GB of dual channeled RAM
A non intergrated video card....prefferably latest for what they have in laptop technology (but i dont want like super expensive stuff thats designed for engineers..just good enough so it runs WoW. My desktop currently has ATI Radeon 9800PRO 128MB..so as long as its better or even with it i am fine)
15 inch monitor (17 is not needed..but can get 17 if its not much more expensive.)

things i dont care about:
weight...so let it be heavy. I want powerful.
size...same as weight.
amount of hard drive (i currently have 40GB on m desktop and its good for me. So 60 should be more than enough)
other stuff they put into laptops to increase price.

how much approx?

I just bought an XPS M1710 with C2D T7400, 2 GB RAM, 100 GB HD @ 7200 RPM, and Ge Force Go 7900 GTX 512 MB for $2800 (shipping included) brand new from eBay.

From Dell it woulda costed about $3400.

You can get a 17" Dell E1705 right now for $1500 with these specs (I just configured it):

Core 2 Duo T7200 (2ghz 4mb)
WUXGA screen (1920x1200)
1gb of RAM (too expensive to upgrade through Dell)
256mb 7900gs
80gb 7200rpm hdd
8x DVD burner
integrated sound

Everything else is standard. You can get 2 1gb sticks of RAM from newegg for 180 right now. There have been really good Dell deals in the past, but none have shown up since at least the beginning of summer. The price can go down if:
1. Dell needs to boost some quarterly sales numbers
2. nVidia releases their G80 laptop counterparts (unlikely to happen until at least mid-December)

The price of RAM might go up.

The upgrade to a faster hard drive is pretty expensive. Right now it is $80. For a little more, you can buy your own (60gb) on newegg, and use the old one for portable storage or sell it.

Edit: and sell the old ram too

You can get a Toshiba P105 SR931(?) for about $1800. 2 gb of ram, 17" TruBrite, 2.0ghz core duo, 7900GS nvidia and a 200gb hard drive. Its HD is 4200rpm, but it uses the new Fujitsu perpendicular drive and it is REALLY dense, so it is probably fast.

is it really cheaper to buy fromebay while u keep warranty and everything same as u bought from a store?

i never was sceptical about ebay..and always trusted them..but i never did large pruchases.
my max purchase was like $20..so i was never worried.
but if i am gonna spend $1500 (i will pay with my credit card so i can do chargeback in case of scam) what are the chances i will get a old or refurbished laptop advertised as new.

Check the seller's feedback and the previous items they sold. A lot of the sellers are reputable. I would avoid the ones who are selling laptops as a one-time thing.

guys, even though i consider myself educated enough to build my own computer (i built this one)...i am kinda lost in recent technology.
I build my computer 3 years ago...so all these new terms confuse me.

What is this Core Duo vs Core 2 Duo vs Duo Core 2 vs whatever else.

Core Duo is a dual-core processor based heavily on the Pentium M. Core 2 Duo is a dual-core processor based on the newer Core microarchitecture; it is similar, but more powerful at a given clock speed.

Duo Core 2 is a popular typo.

Thanks Aluvus.
So let me get this straight:

Core Duo is dual core processor based on Pentium M (Is it good o run latest games on high or highest settings)
Core 2 Duo is dual core processor based on newer microarchitecture and is more powerful than Core Duo
Duo Core 2 is a typo...and there are is no such thing.

Is there anything else I have missed? Like are there any more types?

I have a Pentium-M 1.3Ghz (single core)

Paired with a Quadro FX 700 (FX5600 equivalent) 128MB, I can raid at 1200x800 with low-med settings. Even the LOWEST END Core Duo will not have problems with WoW. However, I'd stay away from onboard video and try and get a mobile 7800 series or above.

Okay guys. You have been a great help to me.
Now that at least i am familiar with current CPU's...we only covered the Intel right?
What about AMD?
what kind of processors does it have an what are their names (you dont have to list them all...just the current ones)
i amasking because the first thing i want to know before buying a laptop for $2000 is to actually be familiar with processors because this core duo core 2 duo dual core have been confusing me.

P.S. now that i know that there is no such thing as Duo Core 2...is there Core Duo 2?
